Faig Ahmed: Carpet Woven To Look Like A Glitch.

Baku-based artist Faig Ahmed combines the beauty of traditional Azerbaijani rugs with technological glitches in his on-going series of contemporary carpets. Using the artistic qualities of these tapestries, he disassembles their conventional structure to rearrange and fragment it. The result often resembles a rug that doubles as a fascinating modern sculpture

Some folks at the #PyCon sprints told me about this gem from 2007:

Interesting work. To paraphrase: US scientific funding rates are so low, that most good proposals are unfunded. Among the best proposals, getting funded is largely a matter of chance. Significant labor is wasted writing proposals that go unfunded despite merit.

"We note that 20% funding rates impose a substantial opportunity cost on researchers by wasting a large fraction of the available research time for at least half of our scientists..."

Frozen Methane Bubbles  || +Amazing things in the world

These lakes may look like they are full of bizarre floating sea cratures, but they are actually filled with thousands of frozen bubbles.
Snapped across Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada, the natural wonders are made of highly flammable gas methane.
The gas - emitted by bacteria after they consume dead organic matter - is fairly harmless, but these bubbles can cause an explosion if lit.
