One of the greatest American theologians in our nation's relatively young history - at least compared to Europe - is the brilliant Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758). Edwards once wrote an article showing the eight characteristics...

Russ Moore, Women, and Preaching a False Gospel
In light of the report that Dr. Russ Moore made a proclamation that egalitarians preach "a false gospel," I decided to publish an updated post from few years ago. I respect Dr. Moore (pictured left), the head of the Southern Baptist Ethics and Religious Lib...

Mark Driscoll and Janet Mefferd: Plagiarism, Tribalism and Paganism
Mark Driscoll has done a great deal of good for advancing the Kingdom of God . He has also done some really weird stuff that is at best neutral in terms of its effect on the advance of the Kingdom, and in some cases, outright detrimental . At times I have d...

5 Things Highly Focused Kingdom People Do Before 8 AM
I recently read an article in Forbes Magazine that identified 5 Things Super Successful People Do Before 8 AM . The article got me to thinking about the morning habits of highly-focused Kingdom people. I've read many biographies of Christian men and women w...

Copycat Church
In preparing a series on the book of Daniel, I took notice (again) as to how many Christian preachers, writers and popular speakers simply copy their theology from others. Rather than studying Scripture for themselves, they act more like Masons and are able...

"Whether the gospel is in the movie or not--personally I don't go to movies so I couldn't care less--I don't think it could be very effective. The book has done a great job and it will keep on doing a great job!" - Louis Zamperini

Our friend Cal Thomas wrote an excellent column today about how the movie "Unbroken" only tells 'half the story.' He's correct, but I think Louis has nailed it. Too often Hollywood portrays the gospel without veracity and conversions without authenticity. I personally like the fact Louis' conversion to Christ is not in the movie. It is portrayed beautifully in the book (and Louis agrees). If you are watching this video and interested in how a man tortured by the Bird can forgive the Bird, get Laura Hillenbrand's book "Unbroken" and find out that it was Louis' comprehension of Jesus forgiveness of him (Louis) that filled up Louis' heart with the ability to forgive the Bird.

Lord, Be Thou My Vision: A Thanksgiving Poem
Lord, Be Thou My Vision   The Bible says, “In everything give thanks,” But this is hard for me if I may be frank. In my life right now there’s so much tension, For it to happen, “Lord, Be Thou My Vision.”   Luther once cried “this world with devils filled,”...

Spurgeon on Effective Preaching
A great deal of (poor) sermonizing may be defined as saying nothing at extreme length ; verbosity is not to be admired, you must say something and be done with it. "Cut it short, old boy," is a very common admonition, and I wish the presenters of this advic...

The Sleep of Reason Brings Forth Monsters

Three times I've been in need at my home - water heater, broken pipe, and faulty water pump/sprinkler system - and three times Luckinbills has responded quickly, effectively and economically. I couldn't be more pleased with the service. If there were more stars than five stars I'd give them more. Thanks Luckinbills. You've made me a very loyal customer.

If you have read Anthony's one-star review, you can surely feel his pain. Taking off work, losing pay, etc...I'd like to give my experience, which is just the opposite. I called A-Fox and spoke to the owner, Cliff. I, too, called based on the reviews. Ironically, another electrical contractor had unexpectedly cancelled our appointment (illness) and I was desperately looking for another electrical contractor who would come on short notice because I had driven down to OKC to get some electrical work done on a condo we own. I explained my dilemma to Cliff. He had NO technicians available (booked two weeks out), and he was making a service call himself to help out. However, after speaking to me and finding out I had driven down to meet a contractor who had suddenly and unexpectedly cancelled, he made room in his schedule to do the work himself. He had me text me my information. His responsiveness, professionalism, and willingness to help, even though under tremendous time pressure himself was impressive. I offer this review to offset Anthony's poor experience.

I called and within an hour the plumber (Luis) was at my home. He repaired the broken kitchen water line with efficiency and expertise. My wife asked him to look under the bathroom sink and he immediately diagnosed a problem (and solution) for a leak that has given us fits. Five star service. Conscientious. Respectful. Professional. Will pay a premium for quick 24/7 service, but in my book, absolutely worth it. Will use them again without hesitation.
