Interesting mapping of job growth/loss data by MSA. Click on the map to see how it changes over time.

The future of content is access - anywhere, anytime, and with all of one's metadata (edits, commentary, notes, etc.) synchronized across devices PLUS secure backup of one's owned content.

Security, privacy, and user control of one's data are obviously becoming much more important in the minds of consumers. I think the security concern is mainly a policy-level consideration, both in terms of industry bodies establishing standards and for government oversight/regulatory agencies.

My guess is that as more services move to "the cloud" and individual consumers' data become accessible through multiple platforms, demand will grow for features or services that enable data portability (user control) as well as active permission-granting/sharing and notification of access (privacy), among other things...it seems that this is really a direction that Google seems to be embracing in establishing its platform across mail, social networking, docs, etc. For example, the "Circles" concept combined with the "disable re-share" feature is one way to manage active permission granting/sharing; a concept that can (and probably will) be extended to other services like Docs (it's already partly-there), Photos, etc.

Wondering if anyone has run across interesting companies doing work around enabling data portability for consumers or around managing privacy of consumer data?

I'm curious to see how recent economic events will shape the personalities projected and policies proffered by the presidential candidates.

This is an insight from +Fred Wilson that's similar to the discussion around tagging individuals in photos: few people actually like to go through the hassle of curating items. Manual tagging of photos vs. facial recognition with confirmation of false positives? The latter is far easier for most people. I expect to see much more of this "autonomic curation" for users in the social nets. In fact, Google's already started to build it into two of their products: Gmail and Picasa.
