Love isn’t all you need, but it can go a long way towards improving the way clinical social work theory can successfully work alongside indigenous knowledge.

That was the message from Dr Tracie Mafile’o, keynote speaker at the inaugural Kaitiakitanga: Postgraduate Diploma in Bicultural Professional Supervision annual conference held at the Raroera campus last week. http://ow.ly/1dm230gUpBB

Sara Kinred knows what it looks like when Māori in the mental health and addictions sector aren’t served the way they want - or deserve to be.

So she’s doing something about it. http://ow.ly/KeNE30gilyF

Tauira at a womens prison are reconnecting with their taha Māori and further study through a Te Wānanga o Aotearoa performing arts programme.

The first cohort of the Kawai Raupapa Level 3 Certificate in Māori Performing Arts recently graduated at Christchurch Womens Prison.

For the tauira taking the 18-week programme it was an opportunity for them to learn about Māori myths and legends, whakapapa, mana whenua, turangawaewae, whakataukī and waiata.

And for the majority of them it was also a chance to reconnect to their taha Māori while learning valuable skills that will set them up for further tertiary study. http://ow.ly/j2S130gd0N7

Henare King is the first to admit he's not that hot with technology, preferring to steer his tauira towards the popular Innovation Hub at Māngere Campus for their hi-tech needs.

But now the Korowai Akonga kaiako is finding the hub instrumental in his own post-graduate studies, which sees him making an album of waiata for his whānau.

The practice-based learning co-ordinator for Primary Teaching is recording 12 songs as part of his He Waka Hiringa Masters of Indigenous Knowledge studies. http://ow.ly/KXgK30fVleX

Lead Vocational & Youth Guarantee Rutene Gabel, his father and Te Mana Whakahaere member Robert Gabel and Kaiārahi Akoranga Parekura Collins will today commemorate one of the darkest chapters in New Zealand history in Belgium.

The trio are in the Belgian town of Ieper (Ypres) as part of a Toi Māori and Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade delegation in the commemoration ceremony at the First World War monument, the Menin Gate. http://ow.ly/3jTi30fN5Go
