Story
Introduction
I got to live in three different countries and moved to the Bay Area nearly three years ago. It’s great to be so close to the ocean and the mountains with such mild climate. I love nature and it’s often a subject of my photography. Outside of work I try to stay active by going hiking, backpacking, roller-skating, skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing and doing yoga. I can be lazy at times and just stay at home to watch a movie, tinker with gadgets or read something.

"This summer, when Duo and Allo become available, Google users will be at another confusing impasse. Want to send a message to a friend? Pick from Hangouts, Allo or Messenger. Want to make a video call? Hangouts or Duo. Group chat? Hangouts, Allo or Spaces. It's not user-friendly, and it's not sustainable."

"By mandating that companies decrypt data on request, the bill effectively demands that companies accept permanent security vulnerabilities that anyone can exploit, not just well-intentioned law enforcement. It also ignores the likelihood that determined criminals would switch to non-US technology to escape detection, or the possibility that backdoors would could lead to lost business deals as foreign customers refused to run software they know will be easily susceptible to hackers and spies."
It's just as poorly considered as you thought it might be.

A.B. 1681 would punish all smartphone manufacturers who sell phones in California if they do not undermine basic security features, leaving us all at risk. This is about security in the technology we own, and safety for all of us.

I agree this bill would be bad but the wording of the petition is in itself a fine bit of fear mongering...I wish the EFF had constructed something less alarmist.

Here is a simple explanation for a problem with holes in encryption for those who still think it might be a good idea to give government digital keys to your digital life.

Somehow, giving my keys out to a government entity doesn't seem like a good idea.
The bill would require people and companies to comply with court orders asking for unencrypted copies of data.

In general this store is not much different from other Apple stores. I came for a scheduled appointment to have my mac repaired. I was with a technician within 5 minutes and out of the store in 30. The staff I dealt with was friendly and knowledgeable.
