"Simple Obedience" – Daily Devotional – November 16th, 2015

Numbers 2:34 And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses: so they pitched by their standards, and so they set forward, every one after their families, according to the house of their fathers.

The children of Israel simply did what the Lord told them to do. They outlined their lives according to His plan. They set up their entire camp that way.

As simple as it may seem we ought to be reading the Scripture with open hearts to find what pleases God. We do not make rules of it but we do want to order our lives that way.

The way to please God is to “Trust and Obey!” Simple obedience. I will do what God says and trust Him with everything. Don’t live a life of rules. Don’t live a life of guilt and manipulation but do seek to love and please God in all!

"Don’t Count The Men Of God" – Daily Devotional – November 15th, 2015

Numbers 1:49 Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

They were to count the warriors. They would have an idea of how many could go and fight for them. They were not to count the Levites. The Levites were not warriors. They were to take care of the worship of God.

I wonder if the reason they were not to count the Levites was the temptation to think that they had to take care of so many that didn’t have “productive lives!” They didn’t go to war. They didn’t run businesses. They didn’t harvest crops.

It is easy to see them as people that are living off of others. I know what it is to feel that pressure and wish that I didn’t live that way. But it was God’s way and still is.

They were to take care of the men of God that took care of the Tabernacle and the worship of God. We are to do the same today!

"Poorer But According To Ability" – Daily Devotional – November 14th, 2015

Leviticus 27:8 But if he be poorer than thy estimation, then he shall present himself before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to his ability that vowed shall the priest value him.

I love the way God took care of people that couldn’t provide the sacrifice required. Notice that if he were poorer and unable to pay he was to go to the priest. The priest would set a value that was within his ability.

Isn’t that a great picture of grace in the Old Testament. The offering was required but if you couldn’t pay He would work it out where the requirement was within your ability.

Today you have no way to pay so Jesus paid it all for you! He took care of your needs. You can come to Jesus helpless and He will help and save you.

"Consequences For Sin But Still Loved" – Daily Devotional – November 13th, 2015

Leviticus 26:44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.

God has brought His people out of Egypt and bondage. He has set them free and given them great promises. However, He makes it clear that their freedom is not a license to sin. If they sin and run into doing things that are wrong there will be consequences.

Horrible things will happen to them and their children if they turn away from God and serving Him. The list is horrible. But notice He will allow them to suffer the consequences of their sin but He will not thrown them away. He will not hate them. He will not totally destroy them. And greatest of all He will not break His promise to them. He loves them unconditionally.

Now consider the promises of grace from the Lord Jesus Christ to you. Realize that if you walk away in sin then you will suffer the consequences but He will still love you!

"Treat Everyone Alike" - Daily Devotional - November 12th, 2015

Leviticus 24:22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.

God was explaining to his people His laws. He wanted them to treat everyone alike. If a Jew hurt someone that was a stranger, a foreigner, it wouldn’t matter the penalty for their sin would be the same. God wanted His laws to be fair. Just because the person wasn’t a citizen it did not give the citizen extra rights.

I want to be sure that I treat people right. I want to be sure not to allow racism, nationality, or anything to make me think that I have a right to mistreat anyone.

"Honor The Lord First" - Daily Devotional - November 11th, 2015

Leviticus 23:14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.

Before they could eat they were to give God an offering. Seek God first. Recognize that all you have comes from God and not you. We think we give to God. The Bible says that it is God that gives to us. Our offering is our recognizing what God is doing for us.

We realize that God gave us what we have. We give back to Him a part of what He has given to us!

Do you look at what you have this way? Do you honor God with your money and possessions? Do you feel like God and His men are pushing you to give your money to God?

At least something to think about today!

Check out the latest "Sunday In Review" for November 8th, 2015...

It is exciting to get to see God continue to grow Vision Baptist Church, this Sunday we were privileged to welcome Eric, Gina, Jenna, and Nikolas Widholm as the newest members of Vision Baptist Church.

We were in Matthew 26, Pastor Gardner preached a wonderful message on the death of Christ, showing us that it is only through Christ that we can receive salvation, and urging us who are saved to remember what Jesus did for us.

We then took the Lord’s Supper, understanding that we do not take the Lord’s Supper to merit favor with God or earn salvation, we do it to remember Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for us.

Sunday evening we had the privilege to honor the Children’s Church workers as well as the helpers and drivers of our bus ministries.

Robert Canfield, one of the associate pastors, preached the main service.  A thought provoking message on our tendencies as Christians to forget about our God and all He has done for us. We were challenged to remember God, to think on God, and continually remind ourselves of all that He has done for us.

"Sorrow Not As Others That Have No Hope" - Daily Devotional - November 10th, 2015

Leviticus 21:5 They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

God’s people were not to mourn like others even in the Old Testament. We do not exaggerate our loss. We know that our people, our family, those that love God and know Jesus will go to heaven. The heathen obviously would cut themselves and make visible signs of their loss. They didn’t know God. They didn’t know what happened after death but God’s people do.

So we can mourn. We can grieve but we will grieve in faith knowing that God will care for those that we love and that loved Him!

"Stand Against Sin" - Daily Devotional - November 9th, 2015

Leviticus 20:4 And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not: 5 Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all that go a whoring after him, to commit whoredom with Molech, from among their people.

If a man in the nation of Israel offered his child to the demon Molech and another knew and overlooked it then he was wrong. God would discipline this man.

It is so easy to think that I am just minding my own business when we will not stand against sin but there is some sin that requires us to stand up for the Lord and truth. He makes that clear. No doubt that for many years many have been too judgmental and critical of things that are not clearly taught in the Scriptures. That can cause us to overlook other things that are much more important.

God’s people must stand for truth and right!

"Take Care Of The Poor" – Daily Devotional – November 8th, 2015

Leviticus 19:10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God.

God taught His people to make provision for the poor. They were to leave the corners of their fields for the poor. They were to not take all the grapes or fruit from a tree but to leave some for the poor. God would bless His people but they were to always think of others.

Amazing how God blesses His people. Amazing how God wants us to always be thinking of others. The others were the poor and they were they strangers, the foreigners.

They didn’t harvest it and give it to them but did leave it for them to be able to go and pick up. God meets needs!
