In spite of a 2014 decline in #drunkdriving fatalities, #Connecticut still ranks fifth among U.S. states in drunk driving deaths. Nearly half of the drivers killed in 2014 accidents in Connecticut tested positive for alcohol. Another 19 percent tested positive for marijuana.

#Fairfield County actually had the second-lowest rate of drunk driving fatalities of all Connecticut counties, but that does not mean that Fairfield County road users are safe from drunk drivers. Devastating stories of accident survivors emerge from every corner of Connecticut.

Any car accident can cause a pedestrian to sustain serious injuries, but #Hybrid cars may pose an even greater#Risk than other types of vehicles.

At low speeds, the quiet engine of an electric or hybrid vehicle can make it difficult for pedestrians to detect when a vehicle is approaching. This is especially dangerous for pedestrians who suffer from visual impairments.

Road surfaces are subject to a significant amount of wear and tear. Vehicles, loose cargo, and other debris can create small chips or cracks in the surface of the roadway. Asphalt and gravel can also chip in the harsh conditions of a Connecticut winter. Snow and ice can create small imperfections in roadway surfaces that continue to pose a threat long after the winter weather has ended.

With so much media coverage on distracted drivers, impaired driving, and other common causes of car accidents, it can be easy to overlook one of the most basic causes of collisions. Poor conditions in the roadway can make it difficult to maintain control of a vehicle. Small cracks, chips, and uneven surfaces can develop into large potholes, which place drivers in danger.

After a car accident, a Fairfield County car accident attorney can help victims determine all causes of a collision in order to access compensation for their injuries and losses.

One of the most overlooked causes of winter traffic accidents is worn or defective tires. Collision injuries in Fairfield County caused by worn or defective tires are a winter risk because bad tires make an operator more likely to lose control of a vehicle during icy or slippery conditions.

The risks of car accident injuries increase during the winter, of course. But many are surprised such collisions are often not caused by bad weather. Instead, the weather often increases accident risks caused by the poor driving habits that far too many motorists exhibit year-round.

A single bus accident can cause millions of dollars in property damage and injuries. When such a large, heavy vehicle causes such extensive damages to many passengers, it can be difficult for injury victims to secure adequate compensation for the full extent of their injuries. Many commercial bus companies carry the minimum amount of legally required insurance coverage. This does not always leave enough funds to compensate all victims of a serious bus crash

New federal regulations may help reduce the number of truck accidents in the United States by requiring commercial trucks to be installed with electronic logging devices. While it remains to be seen how many Connecticut truck accidents this technology will prevent, the electronic logging devices show early promise for increasing safety on the road.
