As the Linkedin "purists" prepare to respond, consider these "social" media things currently embedded in our Linkedin experience(s):
Linkedin's "Keep In Touch"
Linkedin's "Connections: A healthy professional life starts with healthy relationships"
Linkedin's "Celebrate Vincent Wright's" birthday. (This is NOT about MY real birthday! (MY birthday is in DECEMBER! :-))) (But, if Linkedin is not a "social media website", why does Linkedin encourage us to "say Happy Birthday" every DAY???? :-))
Linkedin's "Connect with Vincent Wright, Brandergist for Job Seekers & Business Builders @ Brandergy.com"
Linkedin's "Interests" (If we're interested only in BUSINESS and NO "social" aspects, why even have an "Interests" tab on Linkedin's main menu?)
Linkedin's "People you may know" ... (If, in 2015, Linkedin's PURELY about "business" ... to the exclusion of all human joy, as if we're constrained to eternally emulate Mr. Spock in business and not space exploration ... then why on Earth should Linkedin use its resources on such a human-oriented segment as "People you may know"? We already KNOW who we know. So, for me, Linkedin's "People you may know..." is an encouragement to explore people relationships ... to "SOCIALIZE" BEYOND those "people whom you're CERTAIN" you know!" :-))
If Linkedin is not a "social media website", why does Linkedin encourage us to "say congrats" to those who've gotten new jobs or who're celebrating anniversaries?
If Linkedin is not a "social media site", why does Linkedin offer us "stats"??? I maintain that if we're here on Linkedin PURELY to "work" and NOT to socialize, we don't need this stats link: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/author/analytics?trk=prof-posts-view-stats
If Linkedin is NOT a "social media site" on which we SHOULD SOCIALIZE, why does Linkedin offer us a "Your Updates" tab on its carefully "manicured" list of tabs? (at a link on your Linkedin profile such as this: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/activities/vincent-wright
IF Linkedin is NOT a "social media site" why does Linkedin, the ultimate business site, offer us "Share an update"? "Upload a photo"? "Publish a post"? *NONE* of us go to job interviews nor business sales meetings with a full inventory of tweets and updates and photos and published posts. When we go to job interviews and business meetings, we do not go with endless examples of what we've created throughout our entire adults lives... We go with as minimal an amount of supporting content as can keep us from being nervous during those meetings with other HIGHLY INTERESTING HUMAN BEINGS! ...
IF Linkedin is purely, 100% just for pure business transactions and NOTHING ELSE, why then does Linkedin use its BUSINESS RESOURCES to offer us such NON-business segments as "Who's viewed your profile"? "Who's viewed your posts"? "How you RANK for profile views"? and, finally
IF Linkedin were purely business and NOT about ANY socializing ... at ALL ... do you think ALL THESE LINKEDIN INFLUENCERS WOULD BOTHER POSTING THEIR GREATEST THOUGHTS ON SUCH A BARREN PIECE OF NON-SOCIAL INTERNET REAL ESTATE? -> https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/discover
As for me, I look forward to socializing with many, many, MANY, many more of the A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. People, I've had the great pleasure of getting to know over the past 11+ years of my being on Linkedin.
What say you, oh, Good Linkedinner? :-)
