"... Employees should have 4-6 OKRs per quarter. If you have more than that, you're going to be fried.

At the end of the quarter, you grade your key results. Google has a 0-1 scale. The goal is not to get a 1 on each key result, you're actually aiming for a 0.6-0.7. If you get a 1, then you've created too easy a key result. (Or as he puts it, "If you get 1s, you’re not crushing it, you’re sandbagging.")If you get below a 0.4, then you need to take a serious look at what you're doing wrong."

Thought provoking article, but I do find it hard to believe that a society can reach this stage? Or is that the Guardian is good at creating sensational perspectives..?

"Is Japan providing a glimpse of all our futures? Many of the shifts there are occurring in other advanced nations, too. Across urban Asia, Europe and America, people are marrying later or not at all, birth rates are falling, single-occupant households are on the rise and, in countries where economic recession is worst, young people are living at home. But demographer Nicholas Eberstadt argues that a distinctive set of factors is accelerating these trends in Japan. These factors include the lack of a religious authority that ordains marriage and family, the country's precarious earthquake-prone ecology that engenders feelings of futility, and the high cost of living and raising children."
What happens to a country when its young people stop having sex? Japan is finding out… Abigail Haworth investigates

The latest update is great - I especially liked being able to edit the dictionary, and the domain-specific dictionaries.

Can you consider allowing users to contribute to open-dictionary plugins that can be imported in (rather than to key them word by word). This way, the community can contribute to specific country words (such as street names, slangs and local name).

Interesting that I need a Chrome extension just to sort my Chrome bookmarks? #chrome
If you're tired of dragging and dropping Chrome bookmarks by hand, we'll show you how to sort them automatically by name. Read this article by Ed Rhee on CNET.

It's actually pretty sad that Chrome has the worst bookmark manager. It doesn't even use tags!

America faces a capitalist dilemma. "Because of the way we measure things, it doesn't make sense to do what makes sense,"

The welfare state resisted its critics and the pain of stagnating economies by making collaborators of the middle class. Indeed, the political genius of the men who built the welfare state was their insight that it would benefit the middle class even more than it would benefit the poor.
CommentsView/Create comment on this paragraphConsider health-care benefits. In France, it has been demonstrated that the middle class spends more per capita on its health than the 20% of the poorest French do. As a consequence, the national health-care scheme actually provides a net benefit for the average income earner.
It is usually easier to see the beginning of something than the end of it. Born in 1945 in post-war Britain, the welfare state met its end in Britain this week, when British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne’s repudiated the concept of the “universal benefit,” the idea that everyone, not just the poor, should benefit from social protection.

"Fall in love with boredom. Fall in love with repetition and practice. Fall in love with the process of what you do and let the results take care of themselves."
Really successful people feel the same boredom and the same lack of motivation that everyone else feels. But the difference is that the people who stick with their goals don't let their emotions determine their actions.
