I like the idea of building it in a milk crate.

Heartbleed OpenSSL TLS vulnerability test

Italian security expert Filippo Valsorda built a web-based test that allows anyone to enter a server’s hostname to see if it is affected or not. He also posted open-source code for the test on GitHub.

"The vulnerability, named ‘Heartbleed’, affects versions of OpenSSL, an open-source implementation of the SSL and TLS internet security protocols that encrypt and secure internet traffic"

Leader's Angle: The business of open source for governmental and commercial success

"Why are essential big software systems so expensive and what can be done to reduce their costs and improve their quality? Ten years of experience is proving that changing the game creates a winning economic model for both buyers and suppliers. The largest barrier to adoption is flawed, legacy views of risk by decision makers who do not fully understand how to best keep their money in their mission. Join us for this Leader's Angle presentation where Dr Brad Wheeler will unpack the economics, politics and coordination required to develop multiple national and international software communities among government and commercial organisations."

This comes via  +Hilton Gibson on the SULUG mail list.

There’s a 13 node 3 shard MongoDB cluster, a 7 node starter Hadoop cluster, and a 5 node Mediwiki.

juju quickstart bundle:~charmers/mongodb/cluster
juju quickstart bundle:~charmers/hadoop/cluster
juju quickstart bundle:~charmers/mediawiki/scalable

Powerful stuff.

Rick and I have been working on this together. He's pretty much sick of me. But the feature is awesome, I did a blog post too: http://www.jorgecastro.org/2014/03/17/introducing-juju-bundles/

"Bitcoin’s success should be measured not by the current value or exchange rate vis-a-vis the dollar or others, but rather by the growth in the real economy."

"But money and support still tend to flow to the newest and sexiest projects, while boring but essential elements like OpenSSL limp along as volunteer efforts."
Heartbleed is as bad as it is possible for a security flaw to be.

Bitcoin isn't a weak system, the infrastructure around it is.

"The problems lie with the fundamentally weak semantics offered by the data stores behind these websites."

Wow, pretty epic description the trainwreck you can have with #NoSQL concurrency, when you need absolute transactional data.
