Experimenting with nighttime time-exposure. Bayshore Mall, Friday night, January 30, 2015. Canon G-16, ISO 80, f/6.3, 25 second exposure. I used the neutral density filter built in to the camera's software as an additional way to diminish the light hitting the camera's sensor. This allowed me to stretch the exposure time to 25 seconds in order to get the light trails from the cars.

"It Looks Warm".  Sunrise on a frosty morning in southeast Wisconsin. I tried to capture the feeling of warmth from the rising sun contrasting with the chill of the frost. I maximized the aperture to narrow the depth of field, and highlighted color in the center of the frame using PSE 12 software. Canon G16, 1/125 sec., f/3.2, ISO 80

40-minute time-lapse I took over Phoenix, AZ last night (Thursday, May 29) looking W-NW starting 30 minutes after sunset. Bright streak above the cactus is Jupiter. The two bright streaks to the right of Jupiter are the stars Castor and Pollux in the constellation Gemini the Twins. (I used the "star trails" software within the Canon G16 camera to create this image.)

Under the lights: a classic scene in warmer weather….insects dancing beneath the street lights. As I took this photo last night I thought about six months earlier when snowflakes were seen dancing beneath this light. Welcome to June 1, the beginning of meteorological summer. Even though the summer solstice, the astronomical beginning of summer, arrives June 21, today is the day when weather records begin for the summer season. From a meteorological perspective, the months June-July-August inclusive are considered "summer". Enjoy!
