The 160m2 Mayo Solar Enhanced Passive House http://bit.ly/YzvEHg has come through this tough winter using just two 12kg (170kWh) bottles of gas for the heater costing €26/each, that's 7 times more efficient than a Passive House. The hot water bill was €38 so that's €90 for heating and hot water for a 6 month winter or €15/month. When the store is charged next year and with a little more winter sun this bill should be halved!

Is this Ireland's most efficient House?

Another Solar Enhanced Passive House from Viking House! the temperature  inside the house was 23 degrees yesterday at 12 mins past 12 on the 12/12/2012,  it was 2 degrees yesterday in Mayo. This house has no back-up heating system, no heat pump, no stove, no boiler, just good insulation, a very low heat demand and Solar Power.

The PHPP heating and hot water demands are fully satisfied by the solar array, even in December! We built the Solar Panel ourselves, its integrated into the roof and is level with the roof slates.
The white lines between the glass sheets are from the clear adhesive that went milky, we should have used black adhesive.

The "Passive Slab" insulated foundation system http://viking-house.co.uk/passive-slab-insulated-foundations.html was officially launched in the UK last week and a new company called "Future Founds" was formed to market it throughout the UK. BBA certification is pending and a new website www.futurefound.co.uk will be live next week!
