"We form it into a #condom ... and when it dries down, it looks like sausage casing."

Sausage casing.
One inventor says a condom should have the feel of a real leather car seat, not mere vinyl.

"I may come to regret the title of this post given the #chemophobia and fear surrounding #fluoride and water fluoridation, but recent research suggests that fluoride may help prevent #bacteria from causing #cavities by creating a non-stick surface on teeth."

#FOP is a rare, genetic condition that turns a person's muscles, tendons and ligaments into bone. Unfortunately, it can be misdiagnosed as cancer and lead to amputations.

A story about getting screwed by your own hard work and sweat...literally.

Also contains the best sentence I read today, "My great-uncle quickly decided to grow some of his own."
In Kurt Vonnegut’s 1963 novel Cat’s Cradle, a central plot element is called ice-nine. The substance, created in a lab, was made up of familiar H2O molecules, but they were locked in a novel crystalline structure that froze solid at room temperature. Because ice-nine crystals could spontaneously convert normal water...

Story
Introduction

I am a Ph.D. researcher in the Department of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology & Biochemistry at Brown University. My research interest is in understanding how cells communicate via molecular languages, known as signal transduction pathways. Not surprisingly, I am also interested in how the scientific community communicates with the general public. A well-informed public will be essential in shaping the policies that affect science education and research in our country.

I blog at PLOS Blogs and Amasian Science
