Why a re-introduction? Because JavaScript is notorious for being the world's most misunderstood programming language. While often derided as a toy, beneath its deceptive simplicity lie some powerful language features, one that is now used by an incredible number of high-profile applications, showing that deeper knowledge of this technology is an important skill for any web or mobile developer.

I'm not even sure we can call it a watch. Okay, it goes on the wrist, and it happens to tell the time, but that's about where the similarities between Apple's just announced watch and the hand-assembled, often painstakingly finished mechanical watches we write about, and obsess over, end. I was lucky enough to be invited to Cupertino to witness the announcement of the Apple Watch firsthand, and though I do not believe it poses any thr...

The concept is called induced demand, which is economist-speak for when increasing the supply of something (like roads) makes people want that thing even more. Though some traffic engineers made note of this phenomenon at least as early as the 1960s, it is only in recent years that social scientists have collected enough data to show how this happens pretty much every time we build new roads.

"In fact, [the  the HTML5 drag and drop module] is so outrageously bad that I’ve gone on strike. I refuse to do any more research on drag and drop. Go do it yourself. Or don’t bother. Whatever. I don’t care."
After spending about a day and a half in testing I am forced to conclude that the HTML5 drag and drop module is not just a disaster, it's a fucking disaster. The module should be removed from the HTML5 specification straight away, and conforming browsers should disable it at their earliest ...

Google famously publicizes gag products on April Fool’s Day. Remember 8-bit maps? YouTube DVDs? But despite a release date of April 1, 2004, its webmail service was no joke. Google’s simple, browser-based inbox introduced to the mainstream several ideas that have become so commonplace over the intervening decade, they practically define modern computing as we know it.
