Planning our DIY kitchen remodel… I love the idea of using salvaged or repurposed materials in place of traditional kitchen cabinets.

My latest auction finds… I love giant, fancy, old junk, and auctions are a great source for inexpensive furniture and decor!
The acquisition troll is on her hamster wheel… churning away, wearing an 80’s style sweatband and leg warmers. She was the one who suggested I go back, alone– the day after the auction previews, to two, separate auctions… and drive back and forth between the two in order to bid on items of questionable value…(...)

Craigslist / auction / salvage yard stuff I've looked at for possible kitchen island configuration... I have three competing design ideas for the kitchen. More or less the same layout/concept but depends on THE THING.

I got totally carried away bidding on these antique garden urns… Now that I have discovered auctions, it looks like I am going to bankrupt us! #antique   #garden   #homedecor   #auction   #hometalktuesday

This antique card catalog is the latest of my AMAZING finds… You should SEE the list of things I’ve scored on Craigslist!!

Dear Craigslist, thank you for sending me this huge antique card catalog ... what I might use a 55 drawer card catalog for... repurposing it for the kitchen. Trying to think of new and ridiculous ways to stage it.

Finding things is cyclical. Sometimes you find ALL of the things… And that is what is happening right now.
Or, alternately, I am entering a manic hoarding phase.
Either way, there are things I NEED TO GET.
Many things.

I love the idea of having a full wall dedicated to just storage in the form of antique, floor-to-ceiling, glass front, wardrobe-ish, built-in library, butler’s pantry, bookcase-ish cabinetry.

Paul said – I will mark the calendar: three months, bankruptcy.
I said – I doubt it will take that long.
My theory of appropriate auction behavior: BUY ALL OF THE THINGS.

We have a large window in our shower…  it’s not unusual in old houses. See our DIY solution to waterproofing it: http://victoriaelizabethbarnes.com/window-in-shower/
There was no other layout for the room that made any sense so we had to work around the window.

we could have put in a smaller window above the shower, but the natural light makes the whole bathroom seem so much larger!!

Restoring our 1890 Victorian
Introduction

My husband and I are restoring a crumbling Victorian home, outside of Philadelphia.  We’re renovating it ourselves, room-by-room… It’s an entirely-DIY undertaking that is both wonderful and overwhelming…

I write about the experience of living in a construction-site, DIY house-renovation, frustration, design, indecision, and how hard it can be on a marriage.
