Hot off my Sense of Adventure blog: time to make your plans for Spring, 2016!
So a bunch has happened since last I checked in here. I will try to fill in some of the highlights right here over the next few days. One of the biggest came – was it almost a month ago? – when for the first time I got to attend the Jack Williamson Lectureship at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. It was swell. Uncle Vic wants you! …To come see him as Guest of Honor here next year! This year’s guest of honor ...

New up on my Sense of Adventure blog! Now with 100% more bonus* creepy Dennis Hopper singing!

*And by "bonus," I mean, "completely gratuitous."
Serious Author Michael Chabon , who wrote The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay: A Novel , famously hates dreams .   I, an author in little danger of being considered Serious, do not. And you know I’m gonna tell you all about it … after the jump. But first, please enjoy this ultra-creepy scene of Dennis Hopper singing that Depressed Nerd classic from Blue Velvet :   As I’ve gotten older, one of the drawbacks...

New up on my Sense of Adventure blog: bow down before your new saurian masters - your Dinosaur Lords, if you will.
Omigodomigodomigod! Say hello to your new saurian masters! Your … Dinosaur Lords , if you will. They’re here! The “uncorrected advance reading copies” – meaning, bound galleys, I guess? They’re gorgeous. Oh, holy carp. My modest camera skills do not do them justice. And they have the INTERIOR ILLOS. Which are AWESOME.

Smashing news, fresh up on my Sense of Adventure blog!
So who wants more awesome news about The Dinosaur Lords ? Too bad. You’re getting it anyway. But it starts, oddly enough, with this . Ian Tregillis is a good friend of mine, a demon writer of SF and Fantasy, and an astrophysicist. (No, really . ) His wife, Sara Gmitter , posted a link to this suave review of his newest from Publishers Weekly on Facebook. I naturally reposted it on my own Timeline. ...

Hot new news on my Sense of Adventure blog!

Something ... happened. OMG.
That’s where, for the first two days I’ve been trying it, my pious resolve to follow my new tentative work/doing schedule – so I can start getting on top of things, you know? – has gone the moment I checked my email. Today it’s because of this: As I told Tor, the toy dino is a stroke of genius. And now HOLY CARP MY TWITTER FEED IS BLOWING UP .

New up on my Sense of Adventure blog: Pre-order THE DINOSAUR LORDS on Amazon! Please.
No, not the river in South America, although I gather the ones they have down there* are spectacular and colorful. But rather the online-seller-of-books-and-some-of-everything-else, Amazon. Yes, The Dinosaur Lords is now up for pre-order there! Get ‘em while they last! Yes, the image is plastered all over the site – if it weren’t, my most excellent Webmaster Ron Miles would have fallen down on the job. And we know th...

New up on my Sense of Adventure blog: in which I beg a favor. GRANDIOSELY.
Yes, I’m in a grandiose mood today. Deal. Do I detect a note of influence from my buddy George here? #7 on LA Weekly’s “ The 10 Most Ridiculous Metal Album Covers of 2014 .” Because when I go grandiose, I don’t do half measures. And now I have a Very Large Favor to ask of my Internet Master Mind: what magazines, blogs, and other outlets ought I suggest to Tor to send review copies of The Dinosaur Lords ...

So, who wants to read a nice Lovecraftian technothriller? Sort of, Daniel Suarez meets Cthulhu?

My longtime day job writing action/adventure novels for Gold Eagle is going away soon - along with Gold Eagle itself, and the Deathlands series, of which the book I'm currently writing will be my last.  So I'm testing the waters for a new personal side-project to THE DINOSAUR LORDS.  Which is still my main thing and passion project for the near future.

And the long-term too, I hope.

Plus: Aztec gods!

Not returning to Earth. The terrible potent thing prophets and madmen glimpsed in dreams and visions have at last actually arrived.

New up on my Sense of Adventure blog: Mapping Destiny!
So in my last communication from Paradise*, I cruelly withheld details of a second great favor Tor Books did me this week. Well, it was this: Okay, not exactly that. That’s a sample of the work of artist Rhys Davies .

Brand spanking new on my Sense of Adventure blog: Dinosaur Lords expand their realm!
Which is a fancy way of saying that, after we linked to the novel on Amazon for pre-order in hardcover and Kindle the other day , I then discovered thanks to my friend Serge Broom that it could also be had on Barnes & Noble , in both dead-tree and Nook ebook form. Now please enjoy this uncommonly hard-core painting of a Centrosaurus apertus. Also, buzz continues to build for The Dinosaur Lords, huzzah!

The Dinosaur Lords - coming January 2013 from Tor!
Introduction
I was born in Tulsa, lived the first year & a half of my life in Puerto Rico, and moved with my mother to Santa Fe, NM when I was seven. Shortly after we moved to Albuquerque, where with minor interruptions I've stayed happily since.

While I've been a cowboy, a rock radio DJ, & a bouncer, I've spent almost my whole adult life as a professional writer. Mostly I do novels, by preference SF and Fantasy; I've written short stories as well. I'm an original co-creator of the Wild Cards shared-world anthology series. I've written under numerous pseudonyms as well as my own name. I have a story in the latest WC book, Fort Freak, as well as writing novels in the Deathlands series.

The big news is that I've sold an epic fantasy trilogy to Tor; the first novel, The Dinosaur Lords, is due out early 2013. Please check out these free sample preview chapters on my Sense of Adventure blog.

I have cats named TJ and Squeak and a dog named Emma. I live on Jupiter. True things.

Having to all practical purposes died and been reborn last year - in large part thanks to the truly astonishing efforts of my friends - I'm busting loose and aiming to misbehave. So, watch yourselves.
