If you feel chaos and changes choking or worrying you, try following the lead of Bob Miglani. He endorses kindness and action - and no overthinking - in his new book Embrace the Chaos. Here's my blog post based on our interviews.
Bob Miglani's parents have owned and run a Dairy Queen in New Jersey for many years. Though they are in their 70s, they still work there almost every day because it gives their life purpose and a r...

Know your super power. Show your super power. Grow your #superpower for the greater good. My new post: http://workingkind.com/2013/11/your-super-power/
Author and coach Kadena Tate lists her superpower on her LinkedIn profile as creative vision. Chief executive Steve Glauberman lists three superpowers on his Enliighten profile, including a "willin...

Entrepreneurs and patent holders are three times likely to have taken music or art lessons as a child as the overall U.S. population. Find out how Beethoven helps in business in my new #MSU research in my @qz Quartz article.
This item has been corrected.  Time spent learning to play Chopin or Bach at age 8 or 13 may give a child the chops to eventually be a CEO or scientist. Or as researchers at Michigan State University put it: "A young Picasso or Beethoven could be the next Edison." People who own businesses or were granted patents were up...

If your week looks crazy and chaotic, get used to it. Chaos is becoming the new normal almost everywhere, Bob Miglani says in his new book - and in my Quartz article.
Count on chaos to wear you down until you make it your ally—or at least a comfortable companion in your work and life. That's the message from Bob Miglani, author of the new book Embrace the Chaos, which is subtitled "How India Taught Me to Stop Overthinking and Start Living." Miglani, who has worked at Pfizer for...

My #Halloween  story for @Qz looks at homes near cemeteries. They are not a scary investment - quite the contrary - and certainly are popular this time of year.
Don't be afraid to buy a home near a graveyard. It might actually be a better investment. Redfin dug up the data and found that those within 50 feet of a cemetery sell for 13% more per square foot than others further away. The average price per square foot was $162 for grave-view residences versus...

Focus on making the product worthwhile - not the profits. One lesson from the creator of Sriracha:  http://qz.com/132738/the-highly-unusual-company-behind-siracha-the-worlds-coolest-hot-sauce/
If David Tran were a more conventional CEO, he would be a fixture at conferences, a darling of magazine profiles, and a subject of case studies in the Harvard Business Review. Sriracha hot sauce, made by Huy Fong Foods, which Tran founded 33 years ago in Los Angeles, is one of the coolest brands in...

Calm your nerves and boost your confidence? A small ritual before a job interview or major presentation really does help. Just ask the Harvard professor who researched this.
Alison Wood Brooks used her own research when she interviewed for a job at Harvard Business School this spring. "Academic job interviews are very intense," she said. "They ask you very difficult questions." So she started preparing for questions and the lecture that would come after a day of packed interviews. Her ritual of preparation followed the...

Story
Tagline
I use my head and my heart in writing and living. And this year I choose to thrive.
Introduction
I'm a writer, editor, social entrepreneur and sometimes, a writing or career coach.

I'm also a mom and an active volunteer who strives to practice Everyday Generosity and Kindness. In 2009, I started a tiny seasonal enterprise called Mity Nice LLC, developed largely to give teens summer jobs.

I write about careers, consumer issues, work, leadership, the economy -- and kindness - for some high-quality media outlets.

I play a lot too, with ideas, games, photographs, kids, dance, beaches, dogs, art projects.

There's so much more I could tell, but that will unfold in posts and conversations.
