Go San Francisco! The city bans the sale of plastic water bottles in a brave move:

Come October, if you go to San Francisco you'll want to bring more than just flowers for your hair; you're going to need a bottle of your own water. That's because on Oct.

More unbelievable news from the town featured in "The Cove": "Officials in Japan recently announced plans to open a marine park, where visitors can swim... alongside dolphins and whales... then sample dishes made with dolphin and whale meat... Proceeds from the park will help fund the slaughter of dolphins."
Makes perfect sense, non?

A wonderfully animated, satirical short by Survival International. David Mitchell narrates the story of tribal "development"...

Hi Susan, not in the next few months but am sure we will be covering them at some point next year, particularly Rwanda (with gorilla tracking). Thanks!

Awful, awful awful... They lost track of the fees we paid and references we supplied, then we moved in to find a filthy flat full of broken furniture, with storage cupboards full of someone's else's broken items and dirty bedding. Disgusting. Nails sticking out of floorboards, loose light fittings and plug sockets, no smoke detector, curtains held up with clothes pegs, blocked chimney and fireplace that has been used to burn rubbish and plastic. All of this was detailed in the inventory... which they evidently never checked. Ten days later they sent round maintenance, cleaners and removals company, who dealt with most - but not all - of the problems. We were offered a rent reduction by Nelsons for "inconvenience" - now our rent to landlord is overdue but they have not communicated to him about the problems, or the offer of reduced rent. We can't pay until we have the rent reduction confirmed. Landlord is calling us to ask where the rent is - and has not heard a thing from Nelsons. The manager is constantly "on holiday" and we are getting nowhere. Sick of this.
