Rolling out the new version of Google+ worldwide. We hope you love the improvements.
Google+ for Android: snow, search, love

Today we’re launching a new version of Google+ for Android (v4.2.4). In addition to bug fixes and performance improvements, you can now do the following:

1. Shake your device to add snow to your photos. Many of you enjoyed last week’s #AutoAwesome  snow (, so we’re adding another way to let it snow this holiday season. Just open one of your photos, shake your device, and snow will start falling. Shake again to save. (

2. Search across more stuff, from a single box. Now you can search for posts, people, photos and communities — all from one place. So the next time you’re looking for something specific, just tap ‘Search’ and type what you want.

3. Control who can buzz your phone, without missing notifications from others. If you only want certain people to be able to buzz your phone (like family), simply adjust your “Who can notify me” settings. Notifications from others will now appear in “Everything else,” so you can read them whenever it’s convenient.

4. Explore content by category. Now when you visit the What’s Hot stream, you’ll be able to “go deeper” on a number of different categories — from Music and Science to Sports and Photography.

5. Spread the love this holiday season. Now when you +1 posts in the stream, you’ll see something lovely.

The app is rolling out gradually to Google Play (, so check back soon if you don’t see it yet. #googleplusupdate   #spreadthelove

Number #5 is a bit weird. It sort of sounds like G+ is bribing people for likes.
I wish other Google products "shipped" as frequently. I'm looking at you, Google Voice.
Cool looking forward to see it on my Nexus 4 soon :-)
All awesome updates, especially unified search and changes to notifications!
I thought you guys killed November with all of the releases and upgrades, but it looks like you have kept up the momentum. December is looking to be yours as well.
Yay fake snowflake effects
Step 1: Go to snow
Step 2: Take a picture
Step 3: Go skiing? Although that might be step 2, not sure.

Make everyone feel like a special snowflake.
+Ron Hunt The problem is probably because your pics aren't fitting into the algorithm?
2 and 4 is a big plus. I hated just seeing random what's hot. I like it being more specific to save time.. Thanks for the well received info.
Another staged rollout? I hope I'll get it in time for Christmas next year.
Cool. Next, I'd love a better way to manage circles on mobile. Desktop needs improvement as well, but mobile needs to be way simplified.
+Brandon Petaccio Circles need algorithms to be managed properly. We're talking up to 5,000 people you need to keep track of to be successful on here. It's one of the big drawbacks of the circle system, and the G never really provided an algorithm to manage them. Live Circles, kind of. Yeah, they had the SUL but it was by no means user-adaptive.
+Ron Hunt Do you have a quick series of very similar photos posted in the same album? Imagine a movie frame. You combine a few to get autoawesome on a gif. If you don't upload anything with enough resemblance, Google doesn't realize it's a mini-movie.
+Marc Belley Ah, OK.... I guess my confusion is in that I see a lot of what appear to be static (single) photos, such as the one above of the young lady, and it seems that #autoawesome  snow has been applied there.

So, if I understand you correctly, that's really a group of similar photos. Correct?
Give me nooooooow lol this is awesome my first Christmas present! lol
+Ron Hunt I didn't realize snowflakes were riding on top of the autoawesome algo. Weird.
All improvements are welcome. Now finally I can put snow on all my summer pictures >_<
These are great!  I can't wait to put snow on top of EVERYTHING.
+Vic Gundotra Really loving the constant cool updates but really holding out for the more basic ability to move pictures from my auto backup folder to another folder instead of just copy them. Can't do it on android or the web. Hopefully soon.
Really great work well done Google and all the team behind it that went to so much trouble Thank you
Gah! I want it to snow 'on' my phone. : )
Couldn't that cause water damage though? :o
+Vic Gundotra I'm hoping that point 3 (being able to choose whose notifications matter most) is designed to get people used to (and help tune algorithms) for finally switching Google/Gmail contacts over to a circles/G+-based contact system.
I presume that such a system would allow users to choose who could contact them on different devices under differing conditions, as Google Voice does, but Google-wide and device agnostically.
+Vic Gundotra  Can we finally have comments sorted by +1 as an option? And maybe threaded comments to make it easier to have in-depth conversations on G+ :D

It's one of the huge basic flaws that has not yet been fixed.
So is mine! Wait so I just got the domain for it, don't really care about some meaningless url rofl

unless it impacts search results? dunno
+Arthur Hunter This is not a Google+ support thread or 'hassle someone at Google' opportunity. There are product forums in which you can air your grievances.
+Arthur Hunter I wouldn't personally feel good about using a medium that I knew wouldn't accomplish anything to vent, aware that people would get annoyed for the thread hijack and no one at Google viewing it would want to help.

If it's hidden/obfuscated, you won't find help here and as it's a free service (vanity URLs are, regardless of whether or not you pay for Google Apps) the short answer is tough. Deal with it.
I'm also pretty confident that a rock star won't care if you plus him in on our exchange.
The regression that caused the inability to change the notification sound in the G+ app still exists in this update.
When do we get VoIP with hangout?
In this update the ability to tap "originally shared" to open up the shared post has been removed why?
Edit: OK thanks for bringing it back, I'm happy now;)
I'm impatient to see the +1 love. For me, best is 3. Control who can buzz your phone. That's excellent, thank you very much Google+ for these great improvements.
just gets better and better....great job.
Support for windows rt would b greatly appreciated
+Vic Gundotra +Jonathan Terleski As great as this is, I wish you had added this feature to Android instead of G+ so we can do this to any image in our phone gallery, independent of G+. I know we can upload to G+, but hey, it's a nice feature to have on the phone without having to use another app!
+Jay Javeri but that's exactly why you want to use Google+. This and other features make Google+ the best app on your phone. And if it isn't yet, it's getting there.
Hi +Vic Gundotra, sorry to bother, but, "originally shared" is BROKEN. :sob: and the hearts don't make up for it.
Hi +Vic Gundotra when I open the "Locations" the app crashes, every time, even after clearing cache.
+Mark Stronge got the same problem. Did you also install the apk instead of waiting for the rollout to reach you?
Yeah, maybe they have halted the roll out and will update it today.
An Bui
shake to snow isn't working even with update.  Can we get option to add twinkling lights?  I feel that's a much better effect.
+Long Nguyen and +Mark Stronge - feedback noted.  We are working on fixing the reshare issue where you can navigate both to the original author as well as the original post.  Thanks for your patience.
Seattle supposed to get snow too Friday morning, it may cause some problems.
