1,000,000,000 activations.
Go Android!

Just back from a whirlwind trip to Asia visiting our Android ecosystem partners in Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Exciting to see all the high quality Android devices available now, including Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, LG G2, Sony Xperia and many more. Also looking forward to the new devices our partners are launching in Berlin at IFA, played around with them last week and really nice  -- stay tuned; we’ve got a lot more coming!

All this Android innovation is driving tremendous ecosystem momentum and I’m excited to share that together we’ve now passed 1 Billion Android device activations. Huge thanks to the entire Android community from the hardware manufacturers, chip makers and carriers to the developers and content creators to all of you - our Android users around the world - for making this possible.

On my return from Asia, I was also thrilled to find this guy waiting to greet me on the front lawn -- love the new #AndroidKitKat statue and can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favorites:)

Wow! Incredible! How is this figure compared to your forecasts??

They probably changed it from KLP just to throw everyone off. Too funny.

How did they get the name KitKat since it is a brand name?

What a wonderful milestone!

Only 6 billion to go!

(According to 2012 statistics ~7 billion people on earth :) )

Does this mean a Nestle and Google partnership? Hope this was ran by legal. What's next #laffytaffy?

+Vic Gundotra go Google for doing a great job working with Android devs making it easier to move the platform forward together.

Do they know who keep using it? I'm part of thise activarions and 2 years ago change to apple

I wonder how much Nestle is coughing up for this product placement?

Hope you run with a huge
"Have a break (from iOS) have a KitKat!" style campaign.
Or perhaps "Android KitKat, Giving iOS the finger..."

This is awesome! Gonna love saying "has your phone been updated to KitKat yet?"

Gimme a break, gimme a break, (from ios) break me off a piece of that kitkat os.

KitKat? A partnership with KitKat? That's just degrading.

I learned how to make key lime pies for nothing lol jk but I did learn how to make them hah

i pity the ones who were confident abt it being named as keylime pie !
but wasnt there a picture of a android eating keylime pie at a google I/O ??

I love the concept of a Kit-Kat bar for reducing the fragmentation problem.

Break me off a piece of that 4.4!!

+Teddy Rhoads Don't know who gains most from this... The two brands are really far apart. But apparently there will be Kit-Kat with Android logos and with hidden treasures inside!

Go Surface Phone!
Go Surface Mbox!
Go WP-RT!
^___^

I wonder what the financial transactions took place to make this happen with Nestle

I wonder how many of these activation are now from old / discarded phones... It is a wonderful figure... But by self have had already 3 android phones and if you count the ones I activated and had to return to the mobile phone company due to malfunction that number climbs to 5 ...

how much did Google pay to use the name

Curve ball! Nice move. Can't wait to install the next build.

Well, I am personally waiting for Android Milka, Snickers or Oreo.. :))

What i want most for Kit Kat? Please please please improve the scrolling performance ! It either scrolls too slowly, or it'll scroll really fast to the bottom of a page in the blink of an eye! Some people call it lag, but i don't think that's the right word.. the scrolling is just a little.. jerky?! I hope my dream comes true with 4.4 !!!! :)

I wait for the Toblerone...

KitKat! Seriously! :) I've been binging on Key Lime Pie (the edible one) for so many months in the absence of the real one.. I'll have to switch to KitKat instead.

thks Vic for the fun concepts, makes computing more fun >8)

Mmmh. Love Kitkat bittersweet, please ;-)

I think this might be the very first advertising tie-in for an operating system name. I cannot help but wonder who payed who and how much. I hope we don't next see the Google campus renamed "Nestle Technology Stadium" or anything.
Not that I'll lose any sleep but I kind of think 'key Lime Pie' was a better choice. I was also hoping for a jump to 5. I mean - 5. Gosh. Would have been better marketing against iOS7. I'm hoping that incrementing within the 4 schema is a play for media astonishment by having earth-shattering advancements and only referring to it as a point release.

+Michael Dopp It was already talked about. No money traded hands. It was a cross licensing deal.

I activated a few days ago. I might have been no. 1000000. Guess I'll never know.

Everybody loves KitKat. Never felt this excited for an update. Go android!

Take a break have a kitkat yummm yummm

So, KitKat_tm_ ? Did you get permission for that?

Well deserved guys!! I love my nexus devices!!

I am extremely thrilled about the newly unveiled Samsung Galaxy Note III. What a beautiful thing it is.

I'm surprised the 1 billionth person didn't receive a huge Google Play voucher !!!!

I love the name I love everything!!! congratulations for kit kat!!!!!

Take a break ! Have a kitkat :)

So when can I feed my Nexus7 this new crunchilicious  treat?

Isn't KitKat Hershey's in the US?

Hi, +Vic Gundotra . It is an impressive number of activations! Congratulations to that.
However, I wonder about your thoughts around the KitKat naming. How do the "Don't be evil!" policy work when you lend your brand to one of the most evil companies?
KitKat is made by Nestlé who are famous for things like marketing artificial baby milk to poor countries with poor quality of water, hence playing a large part in the death of 1.5 million babies a year.

It would be interesting to hear a little more about the background and the internal discussion at Google about the decision to support Nestlé.

If Google's ecosystem can get to 70% of what Apple's is combined with innovative projects like GOOGLE FIBER (coming to a home near you hopefully) Google will lead the way in this next wave of technology

And i'm still on 4.1.2 (samsung needs to start working on their updates) . I'm so buying à Nexus device this year.

18 months to the next billion.

+Vic Gundotra keep up the great work and keep those pure Google droid experiences coming!! I and many other appreciate all that Google does!

Is Google Currents still in active development? Sharing to Google Plus has been broken for months.
