It is bad poetry day (not just discharged from the hospital day):

Free to a Good Home (Prose Poem)

Free to a good home – slightly used, loving, abuelita. Potty trained and well-behaved. Loves to bake cupcakes and carrot cakes, makes killer fried chicken, rice and beans. Tells great bedtime stories, is a great listener, has tons of life experience. Has been grossly used by lying lovers, disrespectful children, bigoted employers but still wakes up with a smile and hope, in her heart. Collects a pension from Social Security, after a lifetime of working two jobs to support her family, then coming home, to cook, clean, wash & iron clothes, assist with homework, attend PTA meetings, soccer games, plays, Girl Scouts and then to be beat by her useless husband. Enjoys baths and being petted on the head. Takes great good care of children. Is a coffee fiend and likes to sneak a smoke on the back steps occasionally.

I was just discharged from a 10 day stay in the hospital. I cried every day. I am home but still crying. Oh well. Please remember people on Google+ who need your kindness and assistance. Like +Carrie Canup - http://www.gofundme.com/j47js0 , a lovely young lady. Or a family whose back is to the proverbial wall - Faith in Humanity - http://www.gofundme.com/j7c9uw

Oh yes, and myself.

Please consider helping at this time of gifting.

Well,  I'm doing this.

Why?  Because its become pretty clear that I have to do this.  I have to get better.  I have to get my life back.  Going to the pool, it helps.  And I need to go a few times a week because it is helping.  But I'm going to run out money to do it soon.

I am asking for support to continue to go to the pool, to start a walking regimen at home, where its safe, and hopefully over the next year build the stamina and lessen the pain.

If you can't donate, can you share my story around?  It would be really awesome if I could start the New Year on a positive note for once.  It isn't easy asking this, but I have nothing left to lose.

Thanks.

Hi! My Name is Carrie, or Carrot as I've become affectionately referred to.  I have fibromyalgia, multi-level disc degeneration, spinal stenosis and peripheral neuropathy.  I have been unable to work for nearly 4 years and my life has become very limited.  I am in constant pain and it dictates everything I do from sleep to a social life.

Recently I found aquatic therapy after several repeated failures with traditional physical therapy.  Twice a week I go to a heated pool and am able to slowly increase the range of motion, and it doesn't hurt.  It actually feels good.  The tingling in my fingers and toes subsides and I feel more positive.

It works so much better than taking pain medication and I feel better about myself.

My doctor recommends that I use the pool as often as possible.  Daily if I can.  It is also recommended that I start a walking regimen to slowly increase my stamina above ground.  Its also about developing the habit of motion and retraining my body to respond better to motion and stop resisting it.

The problem is that it is expensive.  I have managed to work out a reduced rate for a yearly membership at the pool that I do my aquatic therapy which would include all their locations (very convenient).  This is awesome and comparable to the YMCA but with less foot traffic.

The other problem is that my health insurance has limited therapy allowances, so at some point I will be unable to receive aquatic physical therapy unless I pay for it myself.  If I have a yearly membership, I can at least apply my knowledge to the remainder of the year and keep moving.

Walking is another major issue.  I have an intense cold sensitivity.  In the winter I will break out into welts and get asthmatic from the air, so just walking outside is inadvisable.  Getting a treadmill really is the way to go to ensure that I am doing some dedicated walking every day.  I can schedule time to get out of the house and into the pool at least 4x a week.  I can't guarantee 7x for walking.

Therefore, my estimate would cover my year of expenses for a membership, a treadmill (nothing fancy), and gas money or pool equipment (they have these neat floating bar bells and stuff) I would require.

I am not exaggerating when I say that these things are making my life not only better, but for the first time in a long while I feel like I might be able to get some control back.  I look forward to going to the pool each time.  I feel much more alive afterward, I walk better, I have less balance problems and less intense pain because of the warm water.  Walking is going to be hard, but I know that I need to work on this if I'm ever going to get my life back.  I just need your help to get me there...

Writers and cartoonist, all over the world are supporting freedom of speech in response to the Paris tragedy. Salman Rushdie (who had a fatwa calling for his death) states, "I stand with Charlie Hebdo, as we all must, to defend the art of satire, which has always been a force for liberty and against tyranny, dishonesty and stupidity. 'Respect for religion' has become a code phrase meaning 'fear of religion.' Religions, like all other ideas, deserve criticism, satire, and, yes, our fearless disrespect."

As a poet, I frequently write of the second class citizen status of women and people of color, as well as, my atheism. Whether you agree or disagree, it is my right, indeed the right of everyone - to write, draw or articulate whatever we damn well please without fear from reprisal. To murder someone because they insult your religion, is a mark of barbarism.

Here is a poem, reflecting some of my thoughts:

Hands clasped greedily,
sincerely, they stand before us as representatives of the word,
full of character,
righteousness and zealous in their zeal.
We raptly watch
the holy men with the holy books against holy chests as they stand in their holy places,
rapacious leaders, the demagogues, the covetous
preaching and declaiming so solemnly, so magnificently,
basking, aggrandizing their ethics and godliness,
forgetting,
they stand on pulpits, lecterns and rostrums,
erected on the bones and blood of the dead.
The disappeared.

Ashed to ashes dusted to dust -
the disappeared died on the stake the pyre the sword the knife the gun;
slaughtered
in some god’s name -
kukulcan zeus odin allah yahweh buddha god marx mao money
some movement crusade jihad holy undertaking
or religious insult
for land money gold jewels oil power glory civilization.
Murdered
by the millions,
the trillions;
it is a jumble of maddening numbers
running through my head,
a historic disease
with no cure.

We are singularly and collectively, guilty
I think in a quick burst of rebellion until I once again, succumb to the ennui,
no longer able to listen to the silent screams
echoing in my brain,
or the audible ones.
It is so much easier to be righteous and full of
character
ethics
godliness
SO FULL OF SHIT.

Having forgotten how to read,
we watch history unfold as 30 second sound bites,
pretending to be people
of loudly proclaimed peaces,
pieces of flotsam,
in a bloody stream of screams a river of gore
that has echoed through man’s tenure on earth.

I am
too tired
to fight against this barbaric tide
any longer.

Here I am again...same plea...Namaste

It is the time  of the year, when Medicare supplemental plan need to be considered. Medicare only pays 80% and the supplemental plans can be a big assistance in paying the 20% balance. Each year, I look at the plans, sigh and wish that I could afford one of the plans. Oh well...I need help paying my medical bills and if you are inclined to help me, I have posted a link after the poem. Namaste.

More poetry for you to read...I would like to fall in love although I wonder if it will happen for me again, at this late stage...in any case, today, I have a love poem for your enjoyment. Or disparagement.

A little background about this poem - I was in love with a poet; his words online attracted me to him first, then we started chatting and then I had an opportunity to meet him. In the flesh. The love affair didn't last but we remained friends.

A Love Song to a Poet

I know that you wanted to be amazing...
but would you believe if I told you
you are more than amazing
would you believe that your are the wisp of wind
that stops my breath
you are the silent jungle thrum
that beats beneath my breast
you are all this and more
would you believe me if I said you were the words
that shape and define us
across this parchment of inked emotions
you are the metaphor that clarifies
the alliteration that repeats over and over
my sonnet that sings
the ode that remembers and pays tribute
love, you have always been amazing and more…
