Zone out with me, listening to the trippy work of Nick Casal's Circles Around The Sun called Interludes for the Dead. This is Hallucinate a Solution, a 20+ minute epic instrumental.

Listening to Kick Out The James show on WZBC (MIT's college radio) and James said he was "obsessed" with the veteran Dutch experimental / punk band The Ex. I really liked this song, from their 2013 release Enormous Door, with Brass Unbound. This is Every Sixth Is Cracked

Looks like fun!

20 classic songs from the 80's, 99 cents for the whole lot!

Google Play has a collection of hits from the 80's called 80's Fundamentals.  Duran Duran, Foreigner, and Christopher Cross all represent. You can buy each song for $1.29 or get the whole batch for less than a buck. No-brainer there!

Get your 80's night started right over on Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/music/album/Various_Artists_80_s_Fundamentals?id=Bm6gegf7hk2kjfmyrvnuhnmfrui

Enjoy!

Note: As usual, this may be US only so please only chime in if you "do" get it somewhere else.

Another September release I'm really looking forward to a full listen is Telekinesis' Ad Infinitum. I've enjoyed all his releases and so far what I've heard sounds really solid. Here's Falling In Dreams from a KEXP live session.

I can't share with you here, as G+ still doesn't allow embedding, but go on over to +NPR Music and give a listen to Robert Forster's kicking Learn To Burn. I was playing my September +AllMusic list and this song came on and I stopped everything and told the dog "Hey, that's the Go-Betweens guy!" (I work from home and he's always willing to listen). Love the song and can't wait to listen to the full album, Songs To Play.

Seven years after the Go-Betweens member's last album, Songs To Play is Forster's most diverse and playful solo record.

Some lovely sounds from Lloyd Cole (yes, that Commotions Lloyd Cole). Here's Slight Orchestra from his September release 1D Electronics 2012-2014.

Great song from Young Chinese Dogs, as found on the Indie/Rock Playlist for October. They are sounding very Arcade Fire-ish, yet I still like it :) Here's Phone Call

The Indie Rock Playlist is back with its October 2015 edition. 160 songs + another 40 in the DLC. I have to say I was disappointed with the July list, but it may have been because it just isn't made for listening on the fly in the car. Too much of it sounded exactly the same.

Listening in on the computer for the October list and I've been pretty happy with the first few. Give it a download!

Down 'n' Dirty with Widespread Panic, from their September release Street Dogs. These veteran rockers did a little something different for this, their first release in 5 years - they recorded "live" in the studio (which is actually an old church). This cover of Muirray McLauchlan's Honky Red is deep, dark and grungy.

Speaking of Robert Forster, I still can't believe I didn't know of The Go-Betweens while they were active. 16 Lovers Lane is probably my favorite indie album of the 80s, maybe even of all time, yet it wasn't until just after they disbanded before I'd heard them. Crazy how life works sometimes? Not surprisingly, they were criminally neglected during their time (even from an Aussie fanatic like myself), but only Rumors comes close to the relationship chronicling found in 16 Lovers Lane. Here's Clouds

Joan Shelley reminds me of Laura Veirs and this song from her September release Over and Even +3 , with its haunting baseline and lovely vocals, really does. This is the sort-of title track, Over and Even

A music odyssey thru alt rock, new wave and electronica
Introduction
Please check out Vehement Flame Radio where I play new wave, alternative, electronica and a whole slew of other sounds.

Tossing out music sounds as I stumble across them. I don't really follow back from this page. I just use it to curate interesting songs I come across.

Please + mention this page if you post good alternative, electonica, folk or just plain weird songs. I don't do pop, R&B, rap, or jazz.

Feel free to also circle my personal G+ account, +Jonathan A. - I usually follow back from there.
