OMG how awesome is Google? I know I'm a fanboy... but even, completely objectively, this is supa-magic!

(and yes, I know other fanboys and fangirls have already seen this, but I just now watched it with my family!)

This is what I was hoping didn't happen. When the ambulance/help did arrive why not make it work for all injured but only the former Actress.

India is still long ways to go in terms of value for life, it is still very much a privilege and not a right yet.

Among all things that +Narendra Modi government is doing for better India saving lives from accidents both by prevention and by timely treatment should be high on list.
Two-year-old Chinni's life could have been saved if had she been rushed to a private hospital with actor Hema Malini, claims the girl's father who is himself recovering at a local hospital in Jaipur after last night's deadly accident.

La sagrada Familia, Barcelona, Spain. One of the most beautiful pieces of Architecture I have seen and definitely one of the most aspirational once from this century. (Started in 1886 and It is still a work in progress and schedule to be completed by 2026).

I have a bunch of photos when I attended FOSS4G-Barcelona in 2010, but didn't post them online.
Perhaps I should post now.

A problem you don't often think about in a drought: The earth sinks. Whenever people pump more water out of the ground than the ground gains from rainfall in a year, the ground starts to deflate like a giant waterbed. And when droughts are serious -- as California's is today -- that subsidence can cause serious problems for things like bridges and buildings which were sort of expecting the ground to stay in roughly the same place.

The photo below shows the rather spectacular subsidence of the San Joaquin Valley over a 52-year period, from 1925 to 1977. The topmost sign on that post is where the man would have been standing fifty years earlier; over that time, the ground descended a good three stories. In 2008, the ground started to drop at this sort of rate again -- a meter every five years.

Nathan Halverson of the Center for Investigative Reporting has more here: https://www.revealnews.org/article/california-is-sinking-and-its-getting-worse/

Today I and some colleagues were discussing how Germany as a country does such a great job in managing its finances, balancing growth but not hurting the poor by keeping significant social welfare programs in place.

One colleague conjectured that this must be because they run the country very efficiently. We quickly considered things were other countries waste resources unnecessarily, simple things like Food wastage in the US.

Now I read the news about a very common phenomena in Indian Parliament, that of adjourning the session for the day [1] because our MPs won't let the house work for whatever protest they are up to. All the parties (we have more than 2) do this all the time. It is such a massive waste of resources of the Nation.

By some simple estimates each day when Indian Parliament in session costs the nation about 1.8 Million dollars [2] (assuming 6 hours of work). In past 3 days we have lost 5.4 Million US Dollars worth of work with zero output.

Talk about wasting resources.

The splendid city of Grenada, Spain and the beautiful Alhambra de Grenada.

I haven't paid so much attention to the Muslim architecture style when I went to other buildings in India but with the help of the guided tour I realized how advanced they were in their art and architecture during the visit to Alhambra.

I Drive SF: Confessions of a Taxi Shill

Interesting to read counter views on a topic that usually just paints a picture of Taxi drivers and companies being evil.

Personally I don't have a strong opinion on which side is better and I believe both of them have merits and demerits.
Dear reader, it’s time I came clean. I am on the payroll of the San Francisco taxi industry. That’s right, each week, the local bagman...

The Amphitheater and the performances we saw there were amazing and worth 5 stars, but the service at the food counters was super slow, like slowest ever. We had 12-15 people in front of us in the line took about 80 minutes. We missed a big part of the show waiting in the line for food. Wish they pay people properly and make them more efficient, so everyone can enjoy better.

Very vegetarian friendly, for the veggie tofu soup they asked if instead of beef soup base/broth they should use water instead. We ordered medium and mild spicy veggie soup and I would say medium tasted better. The side dishes were also very tasty and most were vegetarian.

Without doubt I have had much better gelato almost everywhere I tried. I also noticed that when they were making crepes they took out crepes that were prepared in advanced and heating them instead of making from scratch
