in a small touristy town in Pembrokeshire, west Wales, I spent much of my early years helping out in the family catering business and guest house. I would have much preferred to be hanging out at the beach, raving and ogling at surfers but, without realising, I picked up invaluable skills and got to know what makes a business successful. I also got accustomed to talking with people from all walks of life. I enjoyed hearing everyone's stories (I still do).
I studied business at college, and had a short stint at uni before returning to Pembrokeshire. But jobs, especially creative ones were hard to come by. So in my 20's (in 2005) after I could no longer bare to answer another call in my call-centre job, I quit and caught the train to London. I was in pursuit of a creative role in writing, advertising or on a magazine.
London. I got on the temping trial and worked across the zones in a variety of jobs. I sold books at RIBA, processed returns at Burberry, and interviews job applicants at a recruitment company. After 3 years, I landed a nice role in a small publishing and events company and stayed until I left London a few years later. It was here I gained a good grounding in marketing and writing. I created and managed many successful marketing campaigns for a variety of magazines and events. I also developed an interest in photography, jazz, walking and enjoyed all that London had to offer (too much to list here!).
Today. So armed with the knowledge I absorbed through working in all manner of businesses from a small coffee house to a leading publishing and events company, and with a desire to create and help businesses thrive, I am a now a freelance copywriter.
I write for publications: travel pieces, music blogs and event reviews.
For business, I write SEO optimised website content, online articles, business blogs, email promotions, newsletters and print marketing.
