Sons of Liberty International (SOLI) purchased and gave more than 6,000  #Christmas  gifts in 1,200 gift bags to 1,045  #Assyrian  Iraqi families (over 3,500 children!) in the Ashti 2 refugee camp in Ankawa,  #Iraq . We would like to thank all of those who funded this effort: the donors who made a donation to the continuous fundraiser held by #SOLI  founder Matthew VanDyke on IndieGoGo in 2014 and 2015 to help Assyrian Christians in Iraq, to SOLI supporters ($1,000 of the funding for gifts came from SOLI, as well as several hundred dollars more paid by SOLI to cover logistics costs), and Matthew VanDyke (who donated $1,000 of his own money). We would also like to thank the Bashara Social Charity which was instrumental in making this possible by providing information and data about the refugees to assist us with purchasing the gifts, providing personnel to help us acquire the 6,000+ gifts, providing personnel to assist us with distribution of the gifts, and making arrangements with the Ashti 2 refugee camp administration so that we could deliver the gifts. We would especially like to thank Omed Mansuri (the manager of Bashara Social Charity) and Sabah Zakko (Ashti 2 refugee camp manager). We would also like to thank Ishtar TV for covering the event, which will hopefully inspire others to provide help to the Assyrian refugees in Iraq. Sons of Liberty International is committed to providing support to both the Assyrian fighters and the Assyrian civilians they are fighting for, and we again thank the many donors to Mr. VanDyke’s campaign on IndieGoGo, the thousands of SOLI supporters, and Mr. VanDyke for providing the funding to make this happen and brighten the lives of these innocent refugee children with your donations.

My opinion piece in The Toronto Sun newspaper about my experiences in #Syria , #Iraq , and #Libya  and what these conflicts are really like on the ground.
A few years ago, a Syrian rebel commander explained western indifference to the conflict in the most concise and heartbreaking way.

My recent appearance on the Boston.com radio show with host Kim Carrigan discussing Sons of Liberty International, the fight against #ISIS , and the need to support #Yazidi  and #Assyrian  forces. (The host mistakenly included journalist instead of former journalist in her introduction of me, and I of course have no control over what others say when introducing me. I haven't done any journalism since 2009 or 2010.)

The film about my experiences in North Africa, the Middle East, and fighting in #Libya  is on #POV  on #PBS  tonight. I am confident that those who see it will have a better opinion of Libya, the Arab Spring, and why Libyan freedom was worth fighting for.
