A great conversation with Glenn Beck about the persecution of Christians, my experiences that led to the founding of Sons of Liberty International, and the work we are doing to help Christians fight #ISIS  in #Iraq .

Lloyd Grove, editor at large for The Daily Beast, interviewed me about my new #film  "Point and Shoot" about my experiences fighting in #Libya .
Before Matthew VanDyke was a gun-toting rebel in Libya, he was just a 29-year-old with OCD, afraid of sugar. Marshall Curry’s ‘Point and Shoot’ chronicles the metamorphosis.

Yes, I basically walked away and disappeared the past couple of months just as my career in filmmaking was going very well. Now I can tell you why I left it all - I have been in  #Iraq  helping to raise and train a Christian army to fight #ISIS . Sons of Liberty International (SOLI), my new company that provides free military consulting and training to local forces fighting terrorists and oppressive regimes, has been consulting and training the Nineveh Plain Protection Units (NPU) in Iraq. In December I took a US Army veteran with me to Iraq to open a covert training facility north of Mosul, and  #SOLI  began training Christian fighters. We brought over more US military veterans to expand the program. The Peshmerga later gave us permission to train 350 Christian  #NPU  soldiers at a Peshmerga base near Kirkuk, and these soldiers graduated on February 18. I had intended to continue keeping all of this secret for much longer but the NPU has decided to pursue press coverage in hopes of raising funds for the force and for SOLI to train more soldiers and continue consulting the NPU leadership. I have launched a website for SOLI. Check it out and please consider making a donation to help SOLI continue working with these brave Christians to build a force that will defend against and combat ISIS on the ground. SOLI is providing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of military consulting and training for free to the NPU, and I've spent several thousand dollars of my own money to continue providing it. SOLI is 100% donor funded and we need your support to keep working with the NPU against ISIS.

A few days ago my friend Massoud Abu Assir, the famous rebel musician of the Libyan Revolution, passed away in #Libya . Massoud and I first met in #Sirte  during the Libyan Revolution (this photo is from the day we first met In 2012 I got to know Massoud while I was a guest at his home in #Benghazi . My friendship with Massoud was how I met journalist Steven Sotloff several months later when Steven contacted me offering to mediate a dispute that Massoud and I were having (Steven was successful in helping us resolve the problem, and Massoud and I made peace). For those who didn't know Massoud, I'd like to share one story that will tell you what kind of man he was. During the Battle of Sirte, Massoud was shot in the leg by a sniper. He was rushed in an ambulance to the hospital, and kept singing. The doctors removed the bullet, and he played guitar and sang for them afterwards, before heading back to the front line where he had been shot, picking up an AK-47 and firing back at the sniper who had shot him earlier that day. The revolutionary fire burned strong in him, and he will never be forgotten.
