Incredible writers and editors who are brilliant and inspiring and delightful are coming in from all over the world. So because I adore many of them, and I adore many of you…you should meet! (Do let me know if you’re coming because I will be there all weekend.)

I was so excited when my trip to NYC last weekend coincided with Yara’s “Winter Light” piece, which wove together Koliadnyky (winter song singers from Kryvorivnia, Ukraine), an 18th century Baroque Nativity folk opera, and scenes from the current crisis in Ukraine.
I first heard about Yara Arts Group over a decade ago, when I read about its founding director, Virlana Tkacz, traveling to villages deep in the Carpathian

Time, as we understand it, moves from the past to the future irreversibly. But now, an international trio of theoretical physicists is suggesting that there’s more than one future. Two parallel universes were produced by the Big Bang: ours, which moves forward in time (pictured above), and another where time moves backwards. These findings were published in Physical Review Letters in October.

"Words wrought on tombs, worn beyond study.
Goodnight forgotten graves: goodnight nobody.

Goodnight, steely stars. Goodnight, silent air.
Goodnight to noises everywhere."
Cassandra Rasmussen re-translates "Goodnight Moon" from the original Old English.

When I heard the news that Leonard Nimoy died, I felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. Spock was one of my earliest childhood crushes (I loved the intelligent and thoughtful alien with his foot in two worlds), but I grew to greatly admire the artist who brought the character to life. An actor, a poet, a photographer, Leonard Nimoy inspired me with his creativity and generosity of spirit. His art and his words touched so many people's lives--I've been watching the ripples across the internet as people pause to reflect upon the man and his work. That's why I love the following tribute and Stephen's call for a million Vulcan salutes:

"There’s no way I can easily or briefly sum up the life-shaping impact that Nimoy’s nearly 50-year-long coexistence with Spock had on my development as a human being — as a curious thinker, as a man, and as a neighbor to the billions of other creatures I share this planet with. All I can do is this, and I ask you to pass the message along and do it with me, because Leonard Nimoy deserves a million Vulcan salutes." -- Stephen Segal

What is remembered, lives.

Last night at the Museum of Contemporary Art, I had the pleasure of listening to Neil read a story he had begun in 2004 and finished last year, “The Return of the Thin White Duke.” The beautiful short story feels like something that could easily exist in one of the multiverses of David Bowie's mind, snaking its way into his songs and sketches.

Sometimes a story provides us with a welcome escape; sometimes it opens the door to a new world; and sometimes a story gives us exactly what we needed to hear.

The terrible events in Sydney, where Martin Place was locked down after an armed man took hostages, have sparked a heartwarming reaction on social media.

The ‪#‎IllRideWithYou‬ hashtag was begun by Tessa Kum, a TV content editor and writer who lives in Sydney.

"For those of us watching; we live in this world. We aren’t bystanders. We aren’t helpless." ~Tessa Kum
