Regarding tips & tools to make work easier, I'd say the most important thing is so simple. Stay calm, respectful and nice! Your team (those you report to, work with and report to you), your vendors, your clients, your media contacts... people will ultimately determine your success on the job. People can make situations so much easier or more difficult than they need be. And in high pressure situations it can be easy to forget to say please, thank you and "great job." Work hard, work smart and never forget to work nice :)
