That would actually be "Swedish WOMEN develop invisible bike helmet," but whatever. Anyway, the helmet is pretty amazing.
You know what kind of sucks about riding a bike? Other than all that pedaling? Bike helmets. Sure, they keep that overrated "brain" from getting splattered, but they take a lot of the open-air-joy out of things, and they're not comfortable. A pair of Swedish women have developed a remarkable solution: the invisible bike helmet.

"Some observers say the United States does not perform well in international competitions because it is a large, diverse country, with the highest child poverty rate among industrialized countries." Uh, that's an excuse? That's our shame, I think. And note that Massachusetts, a Democratically-controlled state that actually puts resources into education, outperformed the other US states and beat the average. Here's what you need to know: Shanghai jumped ahead after "investing in its most challenging classrooms." Here in the US, we invest in the classrooms with the squeakiest wheels. As a squeaky-wheel type myself, I don't think there's anything wrong with that, necessarily. But the emphasis on charter schools and vouchers means the squeaky wheels get moved to the top-performing schools, while the "most challenging" get nada.
American 15-year-olds below average in math, average in science, slightly better in reading.

I forgot I have this blog, too... I haven't updated in a few years.

Valerie L'Herrou originally shared:

"Healthy economies support diverse entrepreneurial efforts, leading to high economic growth. But concentration of wealth reduces diversity, and with it the most likely growth rate for a country's economy."
Why don't our lawmakers appear to understand this? Republicans get it--they want to make the economy fail so that they have a better chance of winning next year. But there's no excuse for the Democrats to not be educating themselves--and their constituents--as to this basic truth. When people hoard their wealth, well... it's hoarded. It's not out there stimulating the economy. We need to be taxing that wealth and putting it to work.

Doctors and nurses and treatment/advice have always been helpful, I feel I have an excellent relationship with the MDs, NPs, and RNs. I have been going to this practice for years. However, getting through on the phone can be frustrating. And, why don't they have a website? -- it would be nice to be able to, for instance, download a HIPAA release form from the web, rather than having to call multiple times (when you can't get through on the phone), have them fax it to you, and then having to fax it back. It's the 21st Century, guys!
