Thank you +Eater LA for recognizing Valentino Santa Monica on this classically eclectic lineup!
"Fine dining Italian cuisine never goes out of style, as evidenced by the continually-operating Valentino on Pico Boulevard, which has existed since 1972. Owner and founder Piero Selvaggio has been one of the most influential restaurateurs in the city and continues to run the classic dining room."

Grazie @lewgen, OpenTable VIP, for visiting Valentino and for your 5 star review! "What a great meal. It could not have been better. They were so accommodating. We ended up with an extra person at the last minute, but they were able to make it work. Fantastic service and the wine list is legendary!!

"[Donato Poto] credits legendary restaurateur Piero Selvaggio (whose restaurant Valentino Santa Monica celebrates 44 years this December) as his mentor." http://lat.ms/29PNSLi
The conversation about restaurants in Los Angeles is most often about food, and rightfully so, but the experience of dining in restaurants is also about something else. The lighting, the music, the thrill of being remembered on a return visit – this is the domain of the front of house, a brigade made up of hosts, bussers, bartenders, servers and managers. It’s called hospitality, and just like the food itself — and the expectation of the diners —...

We hope you have a chance to try our "Tortelli with Freshly Made Burrata Cheese" from Valentino Santa Monica. Thin shell tortelli cooked al-dente, savory fresh tomato sauce, a smear of sweet cream and burrata filling, topped with shaved aged Ricotta.

"Meet Piero Selvaggio, the Man who Changed Italian Cuisine in the U.S. He introduced Americans to fresh mozzarella, burrata, real prosciutto, extra virgin olive oil, risotto, balsamic vinegar and white truffles..."

We were honored to be invited to this family's restaurant during our trip to Sicily. Confronted by cancer, the grandfather taught his son everything he knew before he died. Now the father teaches his son to honor his father's memory. We will never forget this dinner.

During our recent trip to Sicily we had the pleasure of visiting our long time friend Corrado Assenza at his restaurant. He is a magician of flavor always innovating on the edge of sweet and savory. Thank you for your friendship! http://bit.ly/2aPFyis

Soon after the 1994 Los Angeles earthquake, after Valentino lost countless precious bottles of wine, Chateau Montelena gifted us this magnificent bottle: a magnum hand painted and dedicated to Valentino and Piero Selvaggio. The bottle reads: "Valentino and Chateau Montelena 1994 EARTHQUAKE EDITION painted specially for Piero."

Wow! We are really grateful for all who come and enjoy our food and service. Valentino Santa Monica is our home and our doors are open for you. Thank you to Design1950 on TripAdvisor for their review: "If you are looking for one of the best restaurants in the world, look no further. Valentino is by far, way ahead of the rest. This isn't your typical Italian eatery. This is old world classic style gourmet, and there are no twists. Of course, you can order the pasta, and it will be great. If fact it's the best I've had outside of Italy. For a real treat, allow them to pair the wines with the food. Enjoy, is all I can say."

I was expecting far more from a Michelin rated restaurant. Service was beyond terrible and our server could have cared less about us. Food was good but not amazing. Atmosphere was very bleh. The small amounts of character this restaurant did have felt very outdated and not well maintained. If you want an expensive restaurant with minimal character, useless staff and overpriced food, I guess I could recommend this place. But for the rest of the world, I'd suggest passing on this place.

Response from the owner - in the last week
Matthew, I am sorry you had a bad experience at our restaurant. There is a good reason we have been around for over 40 years and thankfully our guests love our food, hospitality, atmosphere, etc., and return time and again.

If you got the dough, this place is one swanky establishment. Wine is amazing and I'd recommend the grilled octopus with squid ink. Delicious!

Best Italian in LA, although the main room is VERY noisy, so we prefer the others. Never had a bad dish or martini, and great staff

Wonderful dinner. Came here to celebrate dude's birthday since he really likes Italian food. They were kind enough to seat us at a corner booth, it was comfortable and spacious. Our waiter came over to take our drinks order right away and went over the menu items and specials with us. We decided to go with the 5 course prix menu to make things easy, there were many options on the 5 course meal, which was very nice. Service was extremely attentive, came over and refilled out drinks regularly. The food was very tasty and well presented, traditionally prepared, and retained its authenticity. The stuffed calamari was my favorite and a must order. So good. Prices are very reasonable, street parking was a bit difficult as everything had a time limit of 1 hour. Bathrooms are nice and clean.

Had good reviews on Google (4.4 stars) and close to where I was staying. Ordered the: 1. Lobster farro salad, which was too sour with the unripe blood oranges, 2. Baked ricotta, spinach and aspargus salad, where the spinach was too oily and the ricotta was too dry, but the spinach was fresh, 3. The wild salmon, which was not seasoned (we wish there were more capers for some damn salt), however the salmon was cooked excellently, 4. The duck ragu lasagna, where the duck ragu was actually pretty good, but the pasta tasted like it had something wrong with the mozzarella cheese. Overall, the meal was just "ok", but I had higher expectations, which made it worse. I was hoping to be blown away. Perhaps they should take down the 2008 Michelin Star, as they certainly aren't living up to those standards anymore.
