The Hubble telescope is 25 years old and has changed the way we see space (literally and figuratively). While you may never become an astronomer, you could become a citizen scientist.
Last night I had the good fortune to be able to attend a one-night-only panel discussion as part of the Intrepid’s Hubble@25 exhibition that runs through January 10, 2016. Ira Flatow of Science Friday...

It's not too late to check out what's happening in the Adventures in Blended Learning MOOC that started this week. So far it looks like a small but highly motivated and diverse group with a wonderful instructor, Dr. Bernard Bull #adblendmooc

Remember Spirograph? I'm not sure if I should say I'm sorry (because this will suck you down the rabbit hole) or you're welcome (because you will want to thank me).

Like peanut butter cups, MOOCs and gamification may be two great tastes that taste great together.
Over the past few years I have done a lot of exploring with ideas that I would say have come of age to the point that people are really starting to do some interesting things with them in the learning...

Future proofing yourself

One of the advantages of self-directed learning and growing your personal learning environment is that it helps to future proof your professional development. What jobs will be available in the next year or five years from now? Who knows. Things change quickly. Opportunities arise and disappear. Many companies are struggling to find people with the skills they need.

But ongoing learning isn’t just about future proofing your career. What about how your current job has changed? It is important to adjust our thinking and acknowledge that learning isn’t something that takes us away from our work but it is something that has to be part of each of our jobs. Learning and developing your personal learning environment and network is like an insurance policy.

So with the new year approaching we should all take stock and see if our policies are up to date.
