Located in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge at the Gateway to the Beautiful Hood River Valley, the Vagabond Lodge is the ideal place for you to stay while exploring the area.

The Vagabond Lodge was built by the Cranmer family on the west end of Hood River, Oregon, in 1954. The Lodge is still family-owned and has added several buildings to share the area with more guests.

The hotel came to be after Lucy Cranmer moved to Hood River after seeing a picture in a magazine of children playing in the apple orchards with Mt Hood in the background.  She thought that if such a beautiful place existed, she would like to live there. After moving to Hood River, the family built an eight-room motel, living in two of the rooms.

The grounds now include five buildings, nestled on five plus acres of quiet, wooded grounds situated on the cliffs overlooking the Columbia River, with most rooms having stunning views of the gorge. The courtyard is filled with native trees and wildflowers, picnic areas, and a playground. Ponderosa Pines tower 110 feet over the courtyard, while Bald Eagles float by on the Gorge winds that make Hood River an internationally known windsurfing destination.

Our grounds also include picnic areas with tables, and a barbecue and/or smoker is available (call ahead). We have a playground with swings, a big slide, and a sand digger.  We just recently expanded our grounds out back by the cliff, and put in a couple viewpoints to sit and take in the view.

Just named 'Green Partner 2014' by Trip Advisor, our soap, shampoo, and other amenities are from the Environmentally Sensitive Amenities (ESA) collection.  They are made using minimal preservatives, feature crafted, vegetable based soaps, and the use of post consumer non-bleached board imprinted with soy based inks.

We currently have 42 rooms, including 7 suites to choose from, most with views of the Columbia River, some with kitchens, and some with Jacuzzis. We have something for you no matter what you're looking for! All of our rooms have cable TV, a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, and Wi-Fi included for free.

In order to accommodate more guests, we are expanding our property by adding another building, currently under construction, to be completed in the Spring of 2014! This project will add 15 rooms; they will have views of our courtyard, balconies, and a nice finish.

We look forward to your stay with us!

Very old yet well kept property. My first visit was a very pleasent experience. The two young ladies at the office greeted me warmly and engaged in a pleasant conversation offering localeinformation and answering my questions. My room #12 was very clean and well stocked with many items usually found in chains or high end properties. The location up above the Columbia River offers amazing scenic views with many natural sights located nearby. A location to travel from for sightseeing or a wonderful quiet getaway. For the price it will be difficult to beat. A big plus was with the do no disturb sign hung. I woke up at 1030 and noine had knocked or bothered me. A definite return location soon for me. Guy Husvar

Vagabond was amazing! We stayed in a courtyard room- great amount of space. Sheets were super soft and bed was very comfy. Bathroom was great - loved the double shower heads! You get a great experience at a great price. Super close to town and nearby breweries. Will definitely be back, would recommend the Vagabond to anyone!!! Next time hope to stay in a river view room- the view is epic.

For good basic accommodations, I enjoyed the cleanliness of this property. Their front desk and housekeeping staff were very friendly, courteous, and more than happy to go above and beyond their normal roles to offer suggestions for evening activities and points of interest. Having walked the perimeter of the hotel, I was amazed how gorgeous its views were from its riverfront location. Well priced for the experience.

Loved it! No, its not swanky by any means, but you can tell right away these folks care a lot about their business, and their guests. Rooms were clean and homey. No brutal chemical smells like some. Soap, supplies, coffee were pretty good. View of the Columbia from our room was incredible! Our room had one of those "rainshower" heads, which just felt amazing after the long drive. I highly recommend!

This trip we didn't set any destinations so we found hotels when and where we happened to end the day. This hotel was listed on trip advisor as good so we call to see about our 2 dogs staying and rooms available. They had a room and the dogs were fine! When we checked in, I went to the room and it was obvious this room had been smoked in. I went back to the desk and after only a minute of discussion they apologized offered us another room. That room was even better and had a view of the river. Not top end but also not a million dollars a night. Totally fit the bill and had a nice area to walk about. I think they have newer rooms as well if you want to spend more money. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip thru. Thanks for the great customer service and comfortable, well priced room!

Used to stay here back in the late 80's and early 90's when we all would party and ski Mt. Hood. Was pretty dated back then. Looks as if it may have gone through a mid life remodel. The staff here were always nice, and would put up with several of us who had a bit to much to drink. We never disrespected her. She was a sweetheart. I see that there is only one bad review here and it must be from some yuppy city dweller Mo P. Pretty sure the have bug where you are from too Mo. P......It looks as if the carpets have been changed since we were there. And some paint went up on the walls. This is a nice place to stay for the price.

WOW! Vagabond Lodge is not your 5 star experience, but the location is INSANE!! We were here at the beginning of MAY 2014 and to sit on their picnic tables as the kids played on the grass and enjoy a yummy bottle of Char from a local winery...and watch bald eagles fly by and catch fish...can i say more??? White Buffalo Bistro in front is amazing for food--all organic and locally supported...this place is a GEM----I would not eat anywhere else while there. Seriously. There dark cherry vinegarette needs to be bottled and sold. Horsetail Falls are a MUST. Fun hike and our kids loved it--age 7 and 11. Glassometrey is a must as you can blow your own glass...lavendar fields...wineries.....have fun!!
