Looks like about 1% of the US population are veterans from any service. VFW needs to adjust how it counts, update charter and help all the US Veterans all the time. How many groups claim to help veterans because the VFW charter says we can only help certain veterans. Now days my hometown has more than four veterans clubs trying gather support and staff projects. Veterans clubs are slicing the pie to thin to be effective.
We got in my hometown VFW, AmVets, DAV and American Legion; plus our state is lucky to have an active USO chapter. How many clubs does it take to service 1% of the US population?
VFW determined to ensure veterans are not forgotten
The VFW is pleased to announce that last week, at the 116th VFW National Convention, convention delegates passed a resolution to amend Article XI, Sections 1101-1104 of our National Bylaws, allowing male spouses and family members to join the VFW Auxiliary-National Organization effective August 21, 2015.
A few facts regarding this change:
• It is not a merger of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW and Men's Auxiliary VFW.
• It changes the name of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW to VFW Auxiliary and allows spouses and eligible male relatives to join the VFW Auxiliary.
• Males who wish to join the VFW Auxiliary will be required to fill out a membership application, provide proof of eligibility, and their application will be voted on just as females who wish to join.
We’ll provide more information in the coming weeks. Thank you to all those who voiced their opinion on this important topic.
