Neat building, designed by a Frank Lloyd Wright student. Good location for Spring Green sights. Recently renovated motel, with interesting architectural features. The rooms are basic, but functional and of a good size. There is wifi available (not all cell networks work in the area though). There are some beverages and snacks for purchase in the lobby. The owner was very nice, and helped us with some information regarding APT.

I tried to cancel my reservations for a Saturday reservationg at 9AM, but was told no refunds! Most motels will allow a refund if they can rent the room to another party. Not the Usonian! I will not deal with this establishment again.
Response from the owner - a year ago
Thank you for taking the time to write here, however, you based your statement on no facts - I really remember well then I didn't sell out that night. Regards, Carolina

I have stayed at the Usonian Inn twice. back in 2005 it was slightly run down but still had the feel of a 1950s Usonian Motel. Back then we rented a room on the week day for $50. Recently, under new management, the place has had some remodeling - new bathrooms, furniture, paint and windows. Also, the prices have gone up substantially. The new owners have also made changes to the lobby. A built-in cappuccino machine, and wine for sale. The service was friendly but a tad unprofessional. We were greeted a pleasantly woman sitting outside with a boom box blasting out music which I expected her to turn down as we checked in. I had made reservations, but that didn't seem to have made checking in any smoother. We were given a double room after requesting a single and after inquiring further, she finally gave us a single after hesitating a bit.(?). The woman shared her frustrations about running the place - remodeling issues, hot water problems and web page problems - but as guests do we really need to hear all that? She was in the process of setting up a "yard sale" at the motel. My impression is that the new owners were more interested in making a buck by attracting more upscale visitors rather than extending the legacy of the Usonian concept. The remodeling efforts, although commendable, were not in the spirit of Usonian design or philosophy. This is unfortunate because this is a historic building and a lot is lost by altering it simply to modernization and repair. It seems that guests would be largely architecture enthusiasts and would respond favorably to restoration rather than a little wine, machine espresso and leather couches. The Usonian Inn could have much more potential as an compliment to Taliesin and House on the Rock if the owners were more knowledgeable and cared about architecture. All in all, we had a nice stay, but as a FLW enthusiast I remain somewhat disappointed.

Our experience with the Usonian has been utterly horrible and we haven't even stayed there! My husband made reservations online for a date in August of 2015 because we have tickets for a performance at Spring Green. The people at the Usonian claim we made those reservations for last night, July 14 and, of course when we didn't arrive, charged our card for the room. Trying to call them and straighten out the misunderstanding proved fruitless. I asked to speak to the manager and was told this was not a good time to talk so what did I want. Really? She was rude, nasty and didn't want to hear that they made a mistake. Her position is that we were the ones who made a mistake and it was just too bad. She wouldn't fax or email me the reservation copy she had. She had no good command of the English language and had a "pat" answer for everything. For a business that relies on word-of-mouth and should be providing good customer service so people continue to return, this place and the people in it have no concern for good customer relations and out-and-out refuse to work to clear up an obvious mistake on their part. The way this person spoke, I am sure they have done this to other people and should be shut down. I will continue to pursue this with any proper authorities I can find plus our bank. Luckily we still have the emails to prove we were not the one's who made the mistake. I will also make sure I talk about this with friends, co-workers, etc. to make sure all know what kind of people are running this place!

One of a handful of local hotels we'll recommend to our customers. The owner really cares about the local community and keeping people involved and aware of fun local events.
