The season of Advent is more than trimming a tree and buying presents. The true nature of Christmas calls us to prayer and celebration at the Lord’s coming and our own salvation.

The Advent Day of Prayer on Dec. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be a day to reflect on the meanings of Advent. Click the link to learn more about the Advent Day of Prayer. http://ow.ly/ERj1r

Pope Francis has called for 2015 to be the “Year of Consecrated Life” which will begin at the start of Advent on Nov. 30, 2014, and last until until Feb. 6, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated Life.

During this time, we will feature different sisters' vocation stories, to illustrate that though they come from many differing backgrounds, they have all been called by God to serve in religious life.

Preserved in the Archives of Mount Saint Joseph are the letters of Mother Jerome Schaub, founder of the Ursuline Sisters of Paola. These letters, which were written in the late 1800s, detail the support, encouragement, hardships, financial needs and uncertainty as the sisters began a new autonomous community.
