How do you share your expertise and experience with others - without coming off as a braggart? +Derek Halpern shares several practical ways to do it:

- Wait for someone to ask a question about your experience first, or provoke them to do so

- Bring up your experience and accomplishments within the context of something else you're telling or teaching them

- Tell them what you have accomplished and then TEACH them how to do it, too

- Balance your brags with your vulnerabilities, which makes you more relatable and trustworthy.

Check out the video as Derek teaches us these principles in his inimitable style.

To get promoted, outgrow your current job

If you want to get promoted, you need to outgrow your current your current job. It sounds so simple as to be obvious, yet many business people act as if they will get promoted on their track record alone. Having a list of successful projects and initiatives you've handled IS important. But it's not enough by itself.

The new position you desire requires an expanded skill set. You need to be able to demonstrate that you have the skills and knowledge to handle it. As you climb higher up your career ladder, soft skills like the ability to manage others, see new opportunities and creatively solve problems become more important. Helping you develop those soft skills is the focus of my book:

Up Your Impact: 52 Powerful Ideas to Get Noticed, Get Promoted & Become Indispensable at Work, is filled with ideas and strategies you can use to increase your success at work, build your influence and position yourself for advancement.

Between now and Friday, November 30th, Up Your Impact available in Amazon.com's Kindle store for free. It's my way of blessing you this Thanksgiving season!

Are you proactive or reactive (and what does this mean to your career)?

What is your work style? Are you reactive proactive? For many years, simply following orders and doing what you’re told was enough. You could build a career around it. But not any more.
