Established in 1947 by Bernard and Harriet Sweetwood, Unique Photo has prided itself on being a leader in the photographic industry. Soon after opening their first photographic supply outlet in Brooklyn in 1947, Bernard and Harriet opened over 20 retail outlets in department stores across the tri-state area, eventually opening the Hoboken Camera Center in 1950. In 2008, Unique Photo became NJ’s Only Camera & Video Superstore, moving into a spacious location in Fairfield, NJ. While Unique Photo is a modern company, constantly on the cutting edge, we have never forgotten our roots. By running a family owned business, the Sweetwood’s have maintained the fundamental values that have kept Unique Photo at the forefront of the industry.

Time after time I come to Unique Photo for their convenience, although I'm never happy with their service they usually have what I need. However, the past 4 times I've gone they don't have what I need. They don't put many things on display anymore and most of the time you have to ask for something in order to see it, even things as basic as a C-Stand .. they have to go to the warehouse to get it. I recently went in to buy a tethering table/gear, I found the perfect one on display and turns out they didn't even carry it in stock, it was a gift from the company. I asked to buy the floor model and they wouldn't sell it to me. The only one they had in stock was way to big almost double in size and not convenient at all. I'm sorry to say but they're not as good as they once were. I used to be loyal to the company but I think it's time to go back to my original go-to camera stores B&H or Adorama. ✌🏻️

I am so appreciative of the service and the courtesy provided by Lou who works on the floor and Scott who took the time to send my Sigma 70-200 to their facility for an update in order for the lens to work properly on my Mark III. The time and patience demonstrated by both individuals is admirable. Guys, hats off to you!

Stay Away! Been doing business with Unique for over 10 years since they were in Florham Park. Ever since the superstore has opened their customer service is very unprofessional! Employees are rude, and have very little experience. Rental department is very unorganized and have always had a problem with my account and or billing. On multiple occasions I have placed an online rental only to pick up my order and be charged more! Unless its an emergency and you need gear in a pinch, I would definitely take your business elsewhere.

When I bought my GX7 from the store in Fairfield they gave me a better price than B&H. Unfortunately the first body was defective & I had to exchange for another body 2 days later. The return/exchange process worries me. B&H & Adorama would give you an RA # pretty quickly after asking a couple of questions. The guy who took care of my exchange did not make me feel warm & fuzzy. I felt that I had to make a case beyond reasonable doubt to get the exchange done. Sorry when I spend that kind of money that does not cut it in my book. Even though my second body has been great I'm hesitant to buy another expensive item from these these guys. God forbid I get a bad copy of a lens & I have to exchange for another one. I'm sure the process will not be easy. Based on that I can only gives these guys 3 stars. However the staff at the sore was first rate. If these guys want to do business with camera enthusiast, as opposed to moms & pops, they better realize quickly that some guys go through a couple of lenses before they get their perfect copy. I'm not one of those guys but read the photo forums & see how many camera enthusiast go through this process. I like this place but I don't love them. By the way I just purchased a lens from B&H that's back ordered, unique has it in stock but at this point I'm going to wait on B&H because like i said the return exchange process does not make me feel comfortable.

I try to support Unique Camera. As a New Jersey-based professional photographer it is helpful to have a pro-oriented store a short drive away from home. And so I try to support them. Sometimes they are able to match the generally lower prices that are offered across the river. Sometimes they are not. Sometimes it means I wait and make the purchase across the river. Sometimes I make the purchase at Unique Camera despite the differential. So it is distressing when they do not reciprocate. I went to the store with a bad memory card I had used on a job. I needed the images and needed help trying to retrieve them off the damaged card. I was told it would take between 24 and 48 hours and cost $24. They kept explaining the cost until I said the cost was fine. I explained about my urgency, telling them that 24 hours would be okay, but if it took 48, the photos would be worthless. They were completely unwilling to discuss the difference between a professional in need and a mom wanting her photos of her child's birthday party restored. They clearly want to be serving the professional, but, at least in my experience, need to rethink how they might serve professionals.

Could not believe that these guys had the backordered Sigma and Tamron lenses I wanted. Very helpful online staff. I asked them to keep an eye out for another lens I was looking for which was backordered everywhere and I got an email about a week later saying that they had found it for me. Shipping to Connecticut was superfast! Just a bit of a comment on those guys that gave negative reviews about exchanging lenses because they think they got a bad copy...that is not really a store issue, and they have the right to ask questions concerning a return. After the several hundred or several thousand dollar lens leaves their store what a customer does with it could have a profound effect on it and its ability to be resold. Yes not every lens works great with every camera so read reviews, rent lenses, and talk with friends.

Do not buy from this company. Rude customer service, Strict policies designed to screw over the customer, as well of bogus 90 day warranties. Absolutely do not buy from this company. They do not care to retain customers. I ended up filing a dispute with my credit card company just to resolve an issue that could have been fixed with a simple exchange. I am a Store manager in retail, and I would never treat a customer the way I was treated. I would of lost my job. This company gives new meaning to Over Promise and Not Deliver at all. Shop amazon, Bhphoto, Adorama, and Ebay instead. Thank god fro the "Fair Billing Act". Otherwise I would have wasted $200.
