Thank you Bill Thomas for this inspiring unicycle write up!
Yes! 3 years ago my hamstrings and quads were atrophied. I had pinched nerves in my lower back from an active life filled with many accidents. I have been rehabbing for 3 years to avoid back surgery. My quads and hamstrings were atrophied from years of diminishing activity due to back pain. I used the Egoscue "Living Pain Free" excercise book to recover. Did not realize that my quads and hamstrings had not began doing their proper work yet. I had given my uni to Goodwill as I thought I would never ride again. I don't know how I ended up on your site But I am glad that I did. I began by riding 10 yards and dismount as my legs would fatigue quickly. Riding the uni 3 weeks (100 yards) was the exercise that built the strength in my hamstrings and quads to outperform the supporting leg muscles (linguals ) and start working normal again. The next day was like walking on the moon. I felt like I weighed 1/2 as much as the day before. My life is completely different.
Not what you expected to hear maybe smile emoticon I rode many miles. As teenagers my friend and I took turns riding the uni and horse or minibike all over town. As an adult for years I rode to work everyday and down to the waterfront on the weekends. I am now retired and preparing to travel in a custom Built RV trailer. I look forward to riding the Purple Monster down Forest roads and through RV parks.
