The Plaza de las Americas project received a Diamond Award in the 2017 ACEC New York Engineering Excellence Awards. The reconstruction of West 175th Street from Broadway to Wadsworth, transformed the plaza market into a beautiful multi-purpose open space for the community. Design work included site analysis, traffic and geotechnical engineering, topographic survey, and urban landscape architecture. Enhancements include trees, lighting, benches, public art and Eco-Priora™ permeable pavers. Landscape architects chose the pavers to create a design that would match New York’s urban style and fast paced environment. The Eco-Priora pavers were manufactured by Unilock featuring their Senzo® and Series 3000® finishes in different colors to create an exciting amenity space for the citizens and visitors of New York City.

In honor of Infrastructure Week, we'd thought you'd like to see this video from one of our manufacturers, Unilock Ltd., featuring the original "UNI" paver, Uni-Stone. In 1974, Unilock installed Uni-Stone at the Fire Hall on Yorkville Avenue in Toronto. Unit pavers were a brand new paving concept in North America having been introduced by Unilock only two years prior. Therefore, this would prove to be a great test of their capabilities. Forty years later, the Uni-Stone was still intact and enduring the rigors of daily fire truck traffic. https://commercial.unilock.com/yorkville-fire-hall-and-unilock/

Congratulations to UNI Manufacturer Pavestone for winning a 9th Annual Hardscape North America Commercial Category Permeable Paver project award for their Sea Scout Base in Galveston, TX, featuring Eco-Priora permeable pavers. In addition, they received an Honorable Mention for their Tivoli Plaza, Auraria Campus in Colorado.

As a LEED Gold project, the Sea Scout hardscapes were designed to treat and reuse stormwater runoff rather than discharging it untreated into the adjacent Bayou. 42% of total site hardscape is composed of Eco-Priora permeable interlocking concrete pavers, which, when combined with the infiltration capacity of the native soil and the storage capacity of the pavement profile will successfully treat a majority of Galveston’s rain events.

The November-December issue of Stormwater Magazine features a Project Profile on the Joint Base Lewis-McChord Pendleton Multiway Boulevard in Washington featuring 70,000 square feet of Eco-Priora permeable pavers produced by Mutual Materials. The Pendleton Avenue roadway improvements include a tree-lined multiway with slow speed access lanes with parallel parking stalls comprised of Eco-Priora® permeable interlocking pavers, wide sidewalks, and rain gardens.

“The rain gardens and permeable pavement have been designed to mitigate 100% of stormwater from one million square feet of surrounding hardscape,” said Eric Schmidt, Landscape Architect and Principal of Cascade Design Collaborative of Seattle, Washington.

Check out this project featured on the Peoria Journal Star website by Unilock Chicago utilizing Eco-Optiloc permeable pavers:

"Pavers could play a big part in solving a big problem that Peoria has been struggling with since the 1980s: the city's stormwater runoff problem.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria, IL, staged a demonstration of what permeable pavers can do when the Peoria Fire Department dumped some 10,000 gallons of water onto the lot without so much as a puddle. Robert Lindholm, a captain with the fire department, told those assembled that firefighters were dropping 550 gallons of water a minute on the lot for the demonstration.

"The water's not going to go anyplace but down," said Bill Ritson, who managed the paver project for the church.""
