Check out this dramatic Eco-Priora permeable paver project from Unilock Chicago at Loyola University. The new plaza was designed to allow pedestrians and bicyclists safe passage between the southern areas of the school, which includes the new Institute of Environmental Sustainability building and several student dormitories, and the main campus. The plaza represents a 39,000 square-foot expansion of Loyola’s Lake Shore Campus and builds upon the University’s commitment to sustainability by featuring a new storm water management system, Eco-Priora permeable interlocking pavers, native plantings, and a meadow living-learning laboratory for students and visitors. When the Snow Melts
Article in Stormwater Magazine

Last fall, the Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) decided to reconstruct and expand its west parking lot, located off South Cornell Avenue. The Eco-Optiloc and Eco-Priora permeable concrete pavers and Optiloc traditional concrete pavers used in the project were supplied by UNI-GROUP USA manufacturer Unilock Chicago of Aurora, IL. Engineering for the project was done by Stanley Consultants and CYLA Design Associates provided landscape design services.

The U.S. EPA SWMM (Stormwater Management Model) Program is a free, dynamic hydrology-hydraulic-water quality simulation model. It is used for single event or long-term (continuous) simulation of runoff quantity and quality from primarily urban areas. As of May 2014, SWMM Version 5.1.006 has recently been extended to model the hydrologic performance of specific types of low impact development (LID) controls. The LID controls that the user can choose include seven green infrastructure practices including permeable pavement.

For more information on this program as well as many new features added to our re-designed website please visit: http://www.uni-groupusa.org/epa.html.

ASCE Releases Committee Report on Permeable Pavements

After more than five years of work, a design guidance manual on Permeable Pavements has been published. It was sponsored by the Low Impact Development Committee of the Urban Water Resources Research Council of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of ASCE. This is a comprehensive guide to permeable pavements for engineers, planners, landscape architects, municipalities, transportation agencies, regulatory agencies, and property owners planning to implement this best management practice for stormwater and urban runoff.

Permeable pavements are considered a green infrastructure practice that offer many environmental benefits, from reduced stormwater runoff and improved water quality to better site design and enhanced safety of paved surfaces. This book offers a detailed overview of the typical permeable pavement systems and includes fact sheets, checklists, and real life case studies that help you to successfully incorporate this highly effective stormwater management system into your design projects. UNI-GROUP U.S.A.'s technical director, Harald von Langsdorff was a contributor on this project.

New Green Infrastructure Guide

A new report released by U.S. EPA’s Office of Sustainable Communities titled, Enhancing Sustainable Communities With Green Infrastructure: A guide to help communities better manage stormwater while achieving other environmental, public health, social, and economic benefits, aims to help local governments, water utilities, nonprofit organizations, neighborhood groups, and other stakeholders integrate green infrastructure strategies into plans that can transform their communities. Many communities that want to use green infrastructure approaches face technical, regulatory, financial, and institutional obstacles that limit widespread implementation. This report serves as a guide to develop a plan that can overcome these obstacles for neighborhoods, towns, cities, and regions of all sizes. It also can help stakeholders create a vision for how green infrastructure can enhance their communities beyond reducing stormwater runoff, and directs readers to other resources that provide more detailed information that can be tailored to communities’ particular climate, goals, and circumstances.

Uni-Group U.S.A. Mary Bartelme Park in Chicago, Ill., is a 2.3-acre urban park that occupies the site of a former infirmary in the West Loop, one of the city's fastest growing neighborhoods. Over the last 20 years it has been renewed by the addition of numerous upscale residences and fashionable restaurants. However, residents complained about the lack of green space, so the park was created. Uni-Group U.S.A. manufacturer Unilock is proud to have been involved on this fantastic project by supplying the square and rectangular Eco-Priora permeable pavers. http://lnkd.in/ddB_2j4
