It’s 12 years since the Law and Order Trust Fund for Afghanistan - #LOTFA – began. The LOTFA partnership has since coordinated contributions from donor governments to boost the professionalism of Afghan police and better equip them and their workplaces, as part of strengthening justice and security. It’s administered by UNDP on behalf of the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

Mula Dawood, a former Taliban local commander in Zabul gave up his arms in exchange for a peaceful democratic process and decided to cast his vote during the #elections .  He laments: “There is a deep dissention and a huge mistrust among armed Taliban. Therefore, most of the armed Taliban have diverted their tracks and decided to join GoA through peace program, to participate in the political process. According to the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (#IEC), polling took place in 6,212 polling centres across the country, while a further 250 polling centres – which were originally scheduled to be open – were closed due to the failure to dispatch necessary polling materials in light of adverse security developments. Despite these #security concerns and inclement weather, all around the country, people exercised their right to vote in Presidential and Provincial Council #elections.
