One of my favorite posts of the year -- a look back over the past twelve months through a collection of Dan's best Instagram and other travel photos. And here I thought 2016 was going to be a quiet year...

What do you get when you combine competitive goat carcass polo, hunting with eagles, wrestling on horseback, sheep bone-throwing, stick wrestling — and an opening ceremony complete with hearkenings of Genghis Khan, men ablaze on horseback, and a ceremonious appearance by Steven Seagal?

The World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan, of course!

To help you go deeper into this unusual event, we've created an experiential guide with 24 ideas to help unpack it all: http://uncorneredmarket.com/world-nomad-games-experiential-guide/

We are excited to announce our new role as ambassadors for +Context Travel and their Deep Travel program in Berlin!!

In this role we will work together to connect curious and caring travelers to a local community organization supporting refugees in an immersive and learning experience. The goal: foster engagement, understanding and empathy through two-way storytelling in action.

With so much of the recent news cycle being steeped in divisiveness and fear of the "other," it's easy to be disheartened and lose sight of the collective impact of individual connections and actions to redirect the flow of energy. That's what makes this Deep Travel approach to travel, and initiatives like this, perhaps more relevant than ever.

More thoughts on this power of individual interactions in the world of travel and details of this new project here: http://uncorneredmarket.com/deep-travel-project-context-travel/

"Botswana. In Africa. But, where is it again? And, what's it like?"

We've been asked variations of this questions a lot during and after our trip. So, we share a few observations about the country that helped us understand it and shed light on why Botswana surprised us in many different ways: http://uncorneredmarket.com/botswana-travel/

Last month we were fortunate to be some of the first trekkers on the Jyrgalan trek, a new trail being developed in the Tian Shan Mountains of eastern Kyrgyzstan. The three-day 55km/33.5 mile journey takes you over several mountain passes (up to 3,515 meters/11,530 feet) with stops at alpine lakes all along the way. This was one of those "disconnect to reconnect" experiences.

If you want an offbeat trek where you're only sharing the mountains with local shepherds and you're also supporting a new community NGO, the Jyrgalan trek is for you. Our latest provides all the inspiration and information you might need to undertake this trek yourself next year!

Hard to believe that it was 16 years ago that we said "I do"!!

In partnership with +The Ritz-Carlton and its #RCMemories campaign, we share six of these key moments or inflection points, and how each built on the other to create the relationship and the life we share together today – not only with each other, but also with the world.

In other words, we try to answer the oft-asked: “How did you build your crazy life…as a couple?”

On our 16th wedding anniversary we look at six inflection points and deliberate decisions that helped create the relationship and life we share today.

There’s nothing so rare these days as time to one’s thoughts and sensations.

Disconnecting for five days in Botswana's Okavango Delta and deeper reaches of the Kalahari with Desert & Delta Safari camps was a way for us to clear the mind, pivot the focus, tune the senses, and connect more deeply with the people and natural world around us. Sometimes, the world can wait...

Here's more on that experience: http://uncorneredmarket.com/okavango-delta-botswana-disconnect/

It’s likely that you’ll visit Chobe, #Botswana motivated primarily by the draw of game drives and the cycle of wildlife along the river’s edge. However, thanks to some select activities we not only had a unique safari experience, but we also emerged with a sense of Botswana’s history and a deep taste of its local culture.

Read on our experiential travel guide to Chobe with 20 ideas to get you started on your own #ThisIsChobe  experience: http://uncorneredmarket.com/chobe-experiential-travel-guide/

Just three of thousands of zebra we'd seen coming down to the river for an evening drink.

We had no idea that Botswana is home to the second largest zebra migration in Africa. At its height over 25,000 zebra will make their way down the Boteti River in search of water during the dry season. During our stay at Leroo La Tau on the edge of Mgkadigkadi Pans National Park, we witnessed the prelude to this mass move as vast herds of zebra filled the valley and river basin through the course of the day and into the late afternoon. We were amazed by seeing a couple of thousand zebras...can't even fathom what 25,000 would look like!

Travel wide, live deep. Connecting the world through people, food and adventure
Introduction
Whether you intend to travel the world yourself, or you'd like someone to travel with vicariously, Uncornered Market is the place, Dan and Audrey are the people. They guarantee to inspire, to make you laugh, to make you cry, and to help us all realize that the world is small and big and beautiful -- and that we are all human.

In December 2006, we quit our jobs to follow our dreams. We sold everything and hit the road with backpacks and a serious case of curiosity.

We travel deeply and offbeat -- to places like Tajikistan, Paraguay, and Estonia -- with a focus on meeting people from all walks of life. And we rarely turn down an opportunity to eat amazing street food, trek through mountains, run down volcanoes, rappel over waterfalls…and get lost along the way.

Together, we have visited more than 75 countries. We're still going…and still married.
