In the United States there is an auto glass industry standard called the Repair of Laminated Auto Glass Standard (ROLAGS). The purpose of this approved American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard was to determine when to repair and when to replace the windshield. It was determined by the committee that cracks up to 14 inches long should be repaired because it is safer and less expensive than a replacement.
