Really? The picasa website says it is not available for my system (Ubuntu LTS) ...
 
Linux support was dropped in April, but Picasa works perfectly under Wine. A little jiggery pokery is needed to enable Google sign in however. I know a lot of folk don't like running non-native apps, but Picasa is just one of those apps I really like.
 
Yeah wine is not a really neat solution, that is why I wasn't using it. It is not reliable either ....

Seeing your post I thought Google decided to make a native Linux version ...
 
Sadly no. They stopped at 3.0 IIRC. Was always dis-appointed by that as 3.6 brought face recognition and a whole host of improvements. With 4 kids it really made keeping control of the family photo album a breeze. For whatever reason they just decided to drop Linux support.
 
Sync to web works on folders/albums.
