Lights of the Las Vegas Strip will dim on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 10:30 p.m. for three minutes in observance of former UNLV basketball coach, Jerry Tarkanian, following the UNLV vs. Boise State basketball game.

Tarkanian will be the eighth person the lights of the Strip have been dimmed for. Previous observances include: President John F. Kennedy, Elvis, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, George Burns, Frank Sinatra, and President Ronald Reagan. Beginning in 2009, the lights of the Strip have been dimmed annually in March for Earth Hour.

Thanks to the efforts of UNLV alumni Tony Cordasco and Scott Gulbransen.
The legendary former UNLV basketball coach, who died Wednesday at age 84, will be honored at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday for three minutes, only the ninth time the lights have been dimmed on the Strip.

This place is very unprofessional and rude. I recently came here to sign up for a membership and to possible host a private event here but the staff refused to give me the listed price of the membership and insisted that I sign up for the more exclusive membership rather than the basic. So I paid the more expensive membership and they never send me my membership card. I called them but they never answer. I went in person but there is no one working. It seems like they make the students work but the general staff is completely absent. I wanted to hold a event in their building but refused to show me their rental prices and gave me staggering amounts. Really, $1,500 for a 6-hour event? I will take my time and money elsewhere. I advise everyone to look elsewhere if they need to hold a event or get a simple membership which both were not worth it.

Hi David - I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience with the Alumni Association. I cannot locate your record so that we may contact you directly to resolve. Could you please contact our executive director - Jim Ratigan - at 702-895-2380. That's his direct line. He will be able to assist. Thank you! ~Amy
