The issue of Israel and Jewish nationalism is the very center of the contemporary antisemitism, according to philosopher and academic Steven T. Katz, from Boston University, who considers antisemitism today as a combination of ideology and psychological pathology.
To mark the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust, Steven T. Katz shares with Wide Angle his reflections on the stages of the development of anti-Semitism from the New Testament to today. Read the full article here: http://on.unesco.org/2jJleSm

The media, by under- representing and/or unfairly portraying women, fail to reflect society in all its diversity. Women are deprived of their voice, leading to misjudgment, stereotypes and even disempowerment.

Community radio is uniquely positioned to advance women’s rights at local level. Ruth Ochungo, radio presenter at Sauti FM in Kenya, is positive: “Women in the community feel recognized because they can hear a woman’s voice on their radio.”

Through UNESCO’s “Empowering Local Radio with ICTs” project, supported by Sweden, stations are trained to apply fair gender portrayal in their programming, focus on issues of particular interest to women and girls, and stimulate discussions as well as the emergence of solutions.

Fighting disasters is an immense effort that needs the cooperation of all of us. From citizens sending information through social networks, to scientists developing the latest technologies; from politicians working on prevention plans to civil protection helping on the ground. That’s why at the I-REACT project we gathered everyone at @unesco to design the best system for preventing and responding to disasters. https://youtu.be/jkHSGIki0Is

A must read: Knocking out school violence and bullying >> http://on.unesco.org/2iWVEuf
Violence against children is firmly entrenched in family and school life across the world, according to Janice Richardson, Senior Advisor at European Schoolnet. “If we can turn around the approach to violence and develop greater acceptance of diversity in schools, we are one step closer to providing for our children a more tolerant, less violent society,” she says.
