Online learning has expanded massively since 2012. However, the rapid rise of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) has mainly taken place in the global North. The guide, co published by UNESCO and the Commonwealth of Learning, is designed to raise awareness among policy-makers in developing countries as to how MOOCs might enable access to affordable quality higher education.

On 20-23 June, International Task Force on Teachers for Education for All - Unesco is organising a conference in Addis Ababa to review different status of teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Teachers are central to the provision of quality education, the aim of ‪#‎SDG4‬. Worldwide, the number of out-of-school children has fallen by 50 per cent leading to a growing demand for new teachers. As a result, not all learners are taught by teachers with the appropriate training, professional qualification, motivation and with a diversity of support and status. More: on.unesco.org/28Ie3Fh

Only 50% of refugee children are estimated to be in primary school, and only 25% in secondary school. Girls are the most likely to be missing out, reinforcing their marginalization and vulnerability. Refugee children and adolescents are five times more likely to be out of school than their non-refugee peers.

These are the findings of “No More Excuses” Report, published by the Global Education Monitoring Report and the UN High Commission for Refugees, and they reflect neglect on a wide scale.

Every day, thousands of refugee families are forced to leave their homes in the face of war and attacks and seek shelter in camps like the Zaatari Camp in Jordan. There, they hope to find protection, help and also a semblance of normalcy.
UNESCO together with @WarChildUK and European Union has established an informal education project to give vulnerable children a brighter future through the provision of education and psychosocial support.
