[Press Release] New Report Shows ‪#‎WorldHeritage‬ Icons at Risk from Climate Change http://on.unesco.org/1WPGeGq
‪#‎Climatechange‬ is fast becoming one of the most significant risks for World Heritage sites, according to the report “World Heritage and Tourism in a Changing Climate”, released today by UNESCO, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and the @UnionofConcernedScientists (UCS)
The report provides an overview of the increasing vulnerability of World Heritage sites to climate change impacts and the potential implications for and of global tourism. It also examines the close relationship between World Heritage and tourism, and how climate change is likely to exacerbate problems caused by unplanned tourism development and uncontrolled or poorly managed visitor access, as well as other threats and stresses. Tourism can also play a positive role in helping to secure the future of many World Heritage sites in a changing climate.Read more here: http://whc.unesco.org/en/activities/883/

+UNESCO why aren't you protecting historical and religious sites in Syria right now???!!!
Why aren't you doing your job to preserve Palmyra in Syria from the hands of terrorists???
Shrines and thousand year old buildings are being destroyed by terrorists because they are not just told to kill but to steal and destroy as well.
Please respond, WHERE IS UNESCO IN SYRIA???

The powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 recorded on April 16 off the coast of Ecuador and its many aftershocks affected many educational institutions in the country endangering educational institutions and jeopardizing the future of thousands of children. Our campaign aims to help educational establishments operate normally as soon as possible.

‪#‎educationcannotwait‬ - 34 million out-of-school children and youth live in conflict-affected countries. These children are more than twice as likely to be out of school as those in other countries. Youth are two thirds more likely to be out of school. Governments need an extra $8.5 billion a year to close the funding gap for education in emergencies.
UNESCO supports the new Global Fund, which aims to raise nearly US$4 billion to reach 13.6 million children and youth in need of education in emergencies within five years, with the goal to reach 75 million children and youth by 2030.

In 2006, as part of UNESCO's efforts to enhance linkages between cultural and biological ‪#‎diversity‬, a new idea was born to establish a series of Qur'anic Botanic Gardens in the Arab region.
The proposal emerged as part of UNESCO’s efforts to enhance linkages between cultural and biological diversity. It defined a vision of new gardens influenced by scientific and cultural concepts from the Islamic civilizations and from oral and written masterpieces of the Islamic cultures, particularly from the Holy Qur'an, that would be the physical embodiment of garden traditions and preserve the botanic diversity of the environment in the region.
In 2014, the first Quranic Botanic Garden was opened inside Sharjah’s Desert Park, next to the Botanic Museum. Today, Ethiopia plans to establish an Abrahamic Botanic Garden, as a symbol of mutual respect of different faiths. Learn more about this new project in this interview with the leading person, Professor Sebsebe Demissew, from the University of Addis Ababa http://on.unesco.org/1sMoekv
From the first, the Qur'anic botanic gardens project aimed to enhance linkages between cultural and biological diversity, by linking traditional Islamic respect for natural habitats, the cultures inspired by the Holy Books of Islam, with the protection of environment and biological diversity.
