You forded me to summarize it in a more human friendly way ;)
The base features of a cloud:
- The underlying infrastructure in invisible for a user
- It delivers a value for a user in a form of service
- The amount of storage and computing resources is unlimited from user's perspective
- It is geographically distributed
- It implements distributed computing paradigm
- It runs on the commodity hardware
- It is highly available
- It is multi-tenant
- It is easily scalable
- It implements "pay as you go" billing

Definition by +Tytus Kurek which I actually find most accurate from all the definitions I've read ;)

From Hadoop Operations book:

"Hadoop was specifically designed to run on a large number of completely standalone commodity systems. Attempting to shoehorn it back into traditional enterprise storage and virtualization systems only results in significantly higher cost for reduced performance. Some percentage of readers will build clusters out of these components and they will work, but they will not be optimal. Exotic deployments of Hadoop usually end in exotic results, and not in a good way. YOU HAVE BEEN SUFFICIENTLY WARNED."

I think I need start warning my customers, who are coming with some exotic ideas, in such a way :D.
