That said, I did get a lot of stares and dirty looks from older people. It was weird. Like I was on the hanzomon line heading home and it was crowded. I had a seat. An older lady got on and couldn't find a seat, so I politely offered mine (in japanese mind you) and she said no thank you. I've realized that a lot of japanese people will turn down your kindness at first you have have to ask at least twice to be sure, so I asked again, and she once again said no thanks. So I let it go. About 2 minutes later a person a few people down from me offered their seat and she took it (and it wasn't because that person was getting off (the same stop as me).
But yeah, I got a lot of that. I haven't seen any of the other japanese on japanese discrimination, but I have heard of it before. I'd like to think that the younger generations are aware and are sensitive to the issue.
As you said, old stubborn people discriminate foreigners, however the young don't.
That wouldn't mean nothing without that racism in Japan is about to be exterminated.
