Today marries two important moments, which should be celebrated every day, #NationalComingOutDay & #DayOfTheGirl. Sit with how you can be an ally, sit with how we will continue to make progress, sit with how this day is for you, and sit in celebration of you!

"Title IX was then and is today about expanded opportunity, and yes, justice." Because today is about action!

'What Do 65% of the Most Powerful Women Have In Common? Sports'

"More than half (52%) of the c-level execs surveyed played sport at the university level, compared to 39% of women at other management levels. That same study reports that 80% of female Fortune 500 executives played competitive sports at one point in their lives."

Now more than ever we need to promote passionate, purpose filled embodied leaders, especially women. Truth tellers, advocates for justice, visionary organizational leaders, and inspired philanthropists who use a gender and racial lens to guide their work need a larger stage. I believe that equity is our destiny, and we will need wisdom, smarts, determination and inspiration to execute the alternative to patriarchal/toxic masculine leadership models that don’t reflect our truths and even punish our voices.

Thanks to Billie Jean King at the Battle of the Sexes, we could begin that work.

"Stagnant opportunity plays a significant role in maintaining disparities for women in the workforce, who still receive approximately 80 cents for every dollar paid to their male counterparts. The difference is starker for women of color: Latinx women are paid 54 cents for every dollar given to white men, while black women are paid just 64 cents.

These gaps disproportionately impact millennials & explain why women bear a disproportionate amount of America’s student debt. To make matters even worse, millennials without college degrees are finding it harder and harder to support themselves, and only 13% of millennials believe they’re getting ahead in today’s economy."

'Soccer Mom, and Olympic gold medalist Julie Foudy spoke about her daughter Izzy’s first encounter with the tomboy archetype. “When Izzy asked what a tomboy was and if it was a good thing, I said it was a great thing! It meant she was strong, active, happy, confident, and liked sports. And that mommy was a tomboy too.'

With the release of Battle of the Sexes, I want to take this time to tip my hat to all of the athletes like Billie Jean King and Serena Williams who paved the way for greatness and celebration of female athletes.
